Question Automatic's radiator transmission cooler alternative

I own an automatic and would like to upgrade my radiator. I know you can buy aluminum radiators for an automatic, such as the one from AWR that have the transmission cooler built in like the stock radiator, but for a nice price to.

Would the transmission cooler pictured below with a radiator like the koyo work just as well?

My idea is to keep the transmission cooler that is located in the front on the passenger side and using one like in the picture in replacement of the one on the stock radiator with an aluminum radiator. I don’t see why this wouldn’t work, any ideas/opions? You could probably even mount the new transmission cooler on the bottom of the aluminum radiator some how.

radiator

I replaced my automatic radiator with one from a standard transmission car and just used a generic aftermarket trans. cooler mounted to the front of the AC condensor unit......its been working well for 50k+miles.

I had an automatic tranny in my touring for 47k miles until I swapped to a manual. I bought the ultimate radiator without the tranny cooler in it ( for a manual car ) and then bought a 17" frame rail auto tranny cooler from Summitt. Here is how I routed it - Fluid leaves the tranny, goes to rail cooler, then onward to the passenger side tranny cooler and back to tranny. I pulled my pan off, welded in a bung for a drain plug AND a bung on the side for a tranny temperature gauge. The temp of my tranny fluid never went past 180F...ever.

Tom

PS - I have that rail cooler for sale - $20 shipped ( you have to buy some oil hose to mount it )

mine was adequate enough with just a straight hose from the external tranny cooler back into the tranny, i'm using redline ATF and have had no problems with it for the past 6000 miles. plus i heard the internal tranny cooler that runs into the radiator is virtually useless. but yeah, that looks like it should cool you down a good amount. maybe you might even mount it in front of the condenser, i'd assume it'd get colder in that general area anyways.

I have been thinking about changing out the radiator this summer. I did a quick search on ebay to see if I could find a larger transmission cooler to replace the front passenger side one and found this kind. I haven't purchased one yet since my car won't be on the road till around May when winter is over here, then I will do the radiator and transmission cooler change, way too cold right now.
