automatic transmission

I just bought a new 3rd gen. and the automatic transmission won't go into park. I need some help with the problem. Everyone says it sounds like a simple alignment adjustment, but no one has any real tips to give me. Any help?

Are you trying to put the car in park after you've turned off the ignition?

You push it up to park and it will slip back to reverse. Or it will show the park light on the indicator, but won't let go of the key.

I don't know about the slipping back into reverse, but when you say it indicates Park, but the key won't come out make sure your foot is off the brake...
