auto vs manual

What kind of difference in performance is there on a 3rd gen between an autoamtic and 5-speed? Is there a hp difference or are they both 255?
How does a stock auto 3rd gen run??
How reliable is the auto tranny??
Thanks
Chris

The auto tranny is very reliable as long as you don't do a nuetral drop. The performance difference is major off the line but the auto can catch the 5 speed if the power is there.

stock there is a huge difference. the auto tranny will blow very quickly with only a few mods. BTW I have an automatic. Do a search and you will find these responses echoed throughout the forum. 255 is a figure rated at the flywheel so no difference there, BUT by nature autos have more drivetrain loss, plus they are geared differently since they are 4 speeds.

I am sure there are posts out there about a auto to man swap? How hard would that be on a 3rd gen?

I did it on my 2nd gen N/a along time ago.
Need tranny, driveshaft, clutch, flywheel, pedal, slave and master cyl. and manufacture mounts.

Iam sure these aren't as cheap as the 2nd gens.

thanks for the info.

weaklink is right.. more power is lost... It would be hard to determine an exact number, but there are percentages you can go by to give you a good estimate.
