auto transmission

ok....I've been working on starts and burnouts with my 1993 rx-7. I don't really know the best techniques for them since its an auto. And I'm worried that popping it from nuetral to drive at 500rpm's is gonna cause my transmission to be farted out the exhaust. Is this gonna kill my transmission? Any advice would be hot.

Launching in an AT FD isn't as easy as many think. As stupid as this may sound, launching the AT FD takes practice and know-how.

Here's how it's done:
- Press hold and select 'L'.
- Brake torque to 2500rpm.
- Release gas, but don't depress the accelerator any further.
- At 3000rpm, GRADUALLY depress the accelerator.
- At 5000rpm, you should be at full open throttle
- When you hear the buzzer, select the next gear

This is THE fastest way to launch the AT FD.
That should help....

Surely you are not serious about the "neutral drop at 5k"?

You WILL destroy your tranny that way.

I have an automatic also. And one thing you have to always remember is that it is just a different animal than a manual. There is no real way to get away from the fact that it won't launch as hard as a 5 speed.
Now, having said that, once you get a good technique down, it is still fun as hell!
The fun thing about an automatic is that by the time the tranny has acknowledged your foot planted to the floor and is over its "Uh, what?" stage, things happen very, very quickly. The boost has built in that brief moment and if you are in a properly running car, you will be treated to a nice smoky burnout (albeit about 20 feet from where you really wanted it to start!). In first gear with the hold button pushed the car is just damned near like a manual. Other than that moment's hesitation, it's a beast!

Please don't ever rev you car and drop it into gear....please?
