I have one.

It's the same (or very similar) 4-ratio overdrive found in the Mazda MPV minivan.

The stock locking torque converter stalls between 2500 and 3000rpm.

Expect mid 14's in the quarter.

3.9:1 torque sensing limited slip differential.

Check that Lighting and Thunder site.. write up on 4:30 rear end gearing.. good article. I recently talked with the poster, he is still happy with the gearing, however, he feels corners would "come up quick" ...... You know about Chuck and his 11sec auto?? also, special auto forum for mazdas on Yahoo...Modify your convertor for 500+ increase in stall rpm.. Level 10 in Ny mods these trans for performance... Any thing else?? I have a auto. am very happy with it.By the way, Zorra A Duntov (father of vett") felt both hands should be on steering wheel...Ummm...Oh... and i will run 12 soon.....Carter...

Yes, I too have one.
I like it and don't feel it is quite the compromise that some do....lol!

Stall speed is actually 3000 - 3300 rpm.

The tranny is pretty damned smart, but it can be a pain too. It has a Power mode, Normal mode, and Hold mode. The EC-AT automatically selects the Power mode, and to this day I have not figured out how or why, but the Service Manual refers to this and says that once the Power mode is selected it stays in effect until the ignition is switched off.
The Hold feature is a much needed function and gives one near manual type of control (nearly).
I can see how having an upgraded torque converter and 4:10 or 4:30 gears would make the thing a freaking bullet.....once you plant your foot to the floor there is just an immensely fun constant force pushing you back into your seat, with none of the annoying loss of boost experienced in manual cars, momentary as that may be.
