Auto oil cooler to manual dual cooler setup
In my quest to "upgrade" from my current automatic transmission to a manual conversion I am looking at all angles on my plan. Attention has focused on what I am going to do on the Auto tranny oil cooler. I have been searching the archives on what others have done and it seems they have went the way of buying mazda hoses for the dual oil cooler setup and used the auto tranny cooler that way. Most say that the Auto tranny cooler and the manual oil cooler are the same, although they have different part numbers. Both appear to have internal oil temp bypass thermostat.
What I would like to know is if anyone out there, during their auto-man conversion, has plumbed in the auto tranny cooler into the engine oil cooler circuit to use it as the second cooler and how they did it. The current duel oil cooler circuit ( an an R1 ) is in series. Looks like it goes thru the pass side first then the drivers side second and back to the engine by the oil filter. What if I plumb up the piping to go thru the tranny cooler ( which would now be pass 1 engine oil cooler ) and then thru the driver oil cooler on back to engine - would it work ok ? I am thinking of using the existing lines, just find some 1) compression fittings or 2) high psi hose to route this oil in this manner. I have a pressure reading on the oil line to the current drivers side oil cooler and it never goes over 150# psi when cold ( 20-50W ). It settles down to 50# when hot.
Anyone care to comment constructively ?
Thanks

Would you happen to know the Automatic tranny cooler piping line diameter to/from it's cooler ? Maybe I can find a compression fitting for them unless they are Metric.
