Auto to Manual Swap Price and Difficulty?

Guys how much does it cost with parts and labor to do this swap?

What parts are needed and are they hard to locate?

In your experience was the swap worth it or too much trouble for what it's worth instead of buying a 5 speed car to start?

thanks!

The price of a manual vs auto is like 3k. To do the swap, you will need a 5 spd tranny, driveshaft, pedals. Maybe a couple other miscellaneous items. The harness needs to be modified. The cluster can be kept but it will still have the P R D, etc on it. It is all possible, not terribly difficult. Parts alone I would say at least $700-$1000. There are a couple of threads that outline the process pretty thoroughly. If someone was gonna charge you to do it, I don't expect it to be less than $1000. Unless its a low mileage auto, I would just find a manual.

druggist hit right on the nail. The most expensive part is labor guys doing the swapp will take an arm and leg cause that's how they make money. I'd rather just look for a FD that's already standard saves time and money you could use for something esle.

5 speed Trans-$400.00 for a good one but can be had cheaper
DriveShaft-$75.00
Pedals-$2-400.00 and can be difficult to find
Shifter-$20-150.00
Shift ****-$20-100.00
New Slave Cylinder and lines-$150.00
5 Speed Starter-$35-50.00
5 speed Diff Flange-$30.00
Clutch/Flywheel-$300+ depending on how crazy you want to go here.

Can be swapped in a long day or easily in a weekend if keeping the auto gauge cluster. Make sure to remove the Speed Sensor from the auto trans and install it in the manual trans(Only way it will work with auto gauge cluster). You then need to jumper two wires on the large connector that connects to the auto trans behind the bell housing. It is the two largest wires and it by-passes the starter interlock. If you want to get fancy you can wire in a clutch switch and back up lights.

This is the easiest route to take and is proven to work time and time again. If you want to convert the gauges etc it is a bit more work but could likely be done in a long weekend.

For labor I would just look for some buddies to help, everyone knows a car guy that can do some work.
