Assembling stainless steel braided lines
Hey guys,
I'm working on my fuel system and want to use steel braided line in most places. I know I don't need it, I just like it. So, with that said, does anyone have a good tutorial for assembling the braided lines and fittings? I've done some forum searching, and some google searching and found a few little blurbs, but not a lot. In general, it seems pretty straight forward:
1. Wrap tape around the line
2. Cut the line (I got a cutter that looks like a tree limb trimmer from Jegs)
3. Remove tape from newly cut end
4. Put the fitting sleeve over the line
5. Push the fitting nipple into the line
6. Screw the fitting sleeve onto the nipple to pull the nipple into the line
Pretty easy I assume. However, Jegs and Summit also sell 'assembly lube' and 'assembly thread sealer'. Sooo... here are my questions:
a. Does the sequence above sound correct? Anything drastic missing?
b. What's the assembly lube for? Do you put it on the fitting nipple to make it slide into the line easier? If so, does it dry or harden so the fitting doesn't come out of the line later?
c. What's the thread sealer for? I know you don't use sealer when joining two AN fittings. Do you put the sealer between the fitting sleeve and the line when you initially put the sleeve over the line? Something else?
Thanks for any help. If you happen to have a good link with pics, that would be great too.
