Apexi PFC Commander holder - $14 Walmart mod

I'm sure this isn't an original idea but I still wanted to share. I always wanted a holder for my PFC commander but I didn't want to drill holes in the console, etc for the metal version. Instead, I got a GPS/cell phone holder at Walmart tonight and installed it.

Here's my deal... I like to install mods that can be returned to stock and I'll do anything to avoid drilling holes in panels. Hell, even my Apexi AVC-R is mounted with 3M tape and velcro so I can take it off the dash. It only takes 3M adhesive cleaner to remove the glue.

Unlike the metal holder... I can place the GPS/cell phone holder on any dash vent or directly mount to a flat surface with extra hardware. Plus the holder can be rotated 360 degrees and has two ways to grip a device as the pic demonstrates. Also, I can move the holder between cars. Pretty versatile for $14 when compared to the ugly metal version that is permanently mounted.

Enjoy...

Looks good. I was just fiddling with mine last night to see if I could make the metal one work. It just looked terrible any which way. Plus, I'm not a fan of the sandpaper finish of the holder scraping the back of the commander all the time.

Not exactly the best place for viewing. It's like the exhaust overheat warning light flash for the PFC. You probably want these things in places you can see easily.

I made my own a while back. The pictures I posted in my thread seem to have disappeared. I put another coat of paint on it before installation. The commander is velcro'd to the mount, so I can move it around a little bit.

Well I'm glad if I helped anybody out. That brand was the only one I saw at Walmart. They had another model that allowed you to suction cup it to the window with a very long bendable rod but I don't think it looked very clean.

You know how it is... go with what YOU like. I really like the model I picked up since it can hold the commander two different ways and rotates. Another hint... you can raise or lower more based on the vent louver you select.

I did my 28 mile round trip to work today and it was so easy to glance over and view the read out. The read out size is fine using a 4 channel or less display. I haven't tried to read it with an 8 channel display but then again... that's too much info for me.

No prob... the pics RX7 Racer09 put up are a nice add but to answer the question.. it's a generic holder for most GPS and cell phone units. It even has swivel arms so you can create an adjustable support base.
