Apexi GT Spec FMIC

Hi,
Im half way through an install of the Apexi GT Spec FMIC. I currently have the intercooler suspended on the
2 side brackets and the bracket that bolts to the top of the intercooler. It doesnt *appear* to be hanging very low though, and a good percentage of the intercooler is obscured by the front cross member! Is this right? I have attached a pic.

I will re replacing my stock 96 nose with a Mazdaspeed Aero II one and Im not convinced the intercooler is going to fill the nose properly!

Anyone have any experience or comments on this please?

Rgds and thanks

Ant, UK

i dont have the apex FMIC, but it looks right to me. the apex FMIC isnt supposed to fill the front nose well at all. The greddy FMIC does a much better job at it.

OK cool that sounds just like what I need! Some of pictures in the install docs are not too clear and the Japanese to English translation is not perfect
What is PM? Post Message?

Many thanks

that is the same location that mine sits. If you want the pictures that I took during my install, send me an email @ legendrx7@hotmail.com and I will send them to ya. Here is how mine looks with the MazdaSpeed GT-C front end on.

I'll probably end up changing to a Greddy FMIC so I can get it up closer to the opening

Greddy FMIC seems to be mounted better--in front of the crossmember, and lower toward the bottom, so that the IC core really gets into the air stream. The other advantage is the Greddy FMIC core doesn't sit so close to the A/C condenser/rad core thus allowing more air flow to the radiator, especially if you fab ducts to direct airflow to the rad from the sides...

Here are pics of Kyle Bacon's Greddy V-spec 2-row install on his trophy-winning silver bullet with monster-ported Pinapple Racing motor

After weeks of Rx7 Fourm research on ICs (digging up old IC threads), and considering, SMIC, HMIC, FMIC--IMO, the FMIC, specifically the Greddy V-spec FMIC, appears to be the best-looking best functioning FMIC out there for the FD--especially the 3-row

vosko, yeah I plan on getting the two-row Greddy FMIC. Dave Barninger (KD Rotary) says it's plenty good for my J-spec twins and ported motor. The 3-row has too much pressure drop, and intended for single turbo applications. I guess I'm forced to go with the Greddy Airinx intake. It's the only intake that fits with the Greddy 2-row FMIC.

no the greddy intake doesn't fit that well. The bottom intake is buried/hidden by the bottom ic pipe.

Rx-Revin,

What other intake options do we have for fitting an intake with the Greddy FMICs?

I have the knightsport 4 fog front bumper and so far it looks like the apexi will be filling the front perfectly. My bumper also does kind of slant upwards towards the intercooler so thats helps out a bunch. I have a question for you guys who have completed the install: Do I need to cut the frame on the passanger side a little? It looks that way. Mine is more of a custom job since I will not be using the apexi piping.

question: does anyone know the dimension of this intercooler and how thick the core is? Also does anyone have anymore pictures of this FMIC on their cars? I'm thinking of getting this one or the greddy one but am wondering if the thick core will restrict flow to the radiator

I just installled one on my car last week. If you are woried about looks (showing off your IC) then get the Greddy. I am very happy with mine. Although it is not true what people say about NO cutting to mount these. You have to cut a little.

Core size: 9 inch tall, 5.5 thick, 19.5 long.

I believe its about 4.5" deep. Retail on them is around $1600 i think. I didn't pay anything close to that though.
