$132.65. Damn dealer. So anyway, if anyone wants to sell me their shift **** send me an e-mail. Mine has a huge hole worn in the leather, and the remaining material is stringy and uncomfortable when I shift. Problem is, I don't really like any of the aftermarket ***** out there, but I'm not paying 132.65.

Don't blame you, but if you don't want to go aftermarket or to the junkyard, 132.65 is suggested retail from Mazda. You really not interested in a Momo?

Has the Mazdaspeed ones for $57. It screws on just like stock.

I think that is the best option, unless you like the Greddy for $35...it also screws on, but is not as nice as the leather Mazdaspeed one.

Anyone know any other screw on shift ***** for the FD?

I'm not a big fan of aftermarket shift ***** either but Mazdaspeed and Momo both have really nice leather ones, the Mazdaspeed will install like stock.

My stock **** is starting to wear too and I think I'm gonna go with the Mazdaspeed later on.

Everyone has the same problem, a stock shift **** that is worn out. With the pride that we take in our cars this is simply unacceptable. Tell me what you think of the design below. It is a race proven design that is both comfortable and quick to shift. It is made from a composite material with billet aluminum accents, it would never wear out like the stock unit.

I need some input from you on a couple of points.

1. Do you like the styling?
2. The logo on top could be either the 5 speed gear pattern or another logo such as the new Effini logo...what would your choice be?
3. The billet aluminum portion can be offered either as a satin or polished finish.
4. With enough interest the price could be just under $100, would you be interested?

I don't recommend the Mazdaspeed leather replacement that Corksport sells. It wears faster than the stock **** and its also a little larger. So far, I've gone through 2 stock ***** and the Mazdaspeed one. The carbon fiber version would be a better replacement over the leather since it shouldn't wear(one of my next shift ***** I'm considering)

Just kiddin man. Couldn't resist. Seriously though I've never heard of that kind of wear. I don't think I'll ever have to replace mine. Of course now that I've said that mine will probably rot completely away the next time I grab it.

 

Darkside, i dont think the **** looks half bad, my only grip and reason i would not buy it like it is, is because the bottom of it. i dont like seeing the metal part if the leather just ended at the bottom like on a stock **** and flowed into teh boot instead of having a metal peice i would highly consider it since i am in the market now too. i called mazda last week and got a similar quote and couldnt restrain my laughter. let me know what you think dark side and what your plans are with these, scott

oh man i hate those, they look like if you are shitting you gotta grab them like you are grabbing your wood, and if you tried to put your hand over it from the top it would it wouldn't feel as nice as the ones that fit right into your palm

Actually, I have the carbon fiber Mazdaspeed and love it. I had a Momo Combat Carbon and sold it because (a) it stuck up too high b/c it's a universal fit, and (b) the little allen-head screws don't stay tight for long and come loose from vibration. After I had mine come off for the second time going down the drag strip, I sold it.

The screw-on shift ***** are infinitely more stable, and I love the feel of the Mazdaspeed carbon pictured above. I'm shifting quicker and surer. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it .

 

Has anyone tried the B & M short leather? I had the Mazdaspeed one...
It has a nice feel but was slightler fatter than stock...
The B & M one looks to be quite short as well... any comments. jc.

 

i have that one......its almost just like stock. i like it a lot. i hate the look of those CF mazdaspeed ones.....they still stick up high and leave the shaft showing between the shift boot and the ****....i think it looks like ***. i will probably make myself one out of aluminum on the lathe when i get the car back up to CO and do some measurements.

the razo one is pretty nice. the one i build will probably be similar to that one.

 

the leather mazdaspeed **** looks identical to stock except it has mazdaspeed stamped on the outside and its have the price of a new one.

Personally I don't think anything can compete with the stock ****. It's just about the heaviest **** I've ever felt. This might sound weird but I think the heavier the **** is, the easier it is to shift. I also bought one of those Razo carbon fiber ***** and drove around with it. It was a little harder to shift, it was like there was a little drag in the shifter but once I put the stock **** back it was fine. GO figure.

 

You guys ever have trouble with heat transfer through your shift ****? I had a MOMO Cobra Carbon, which is mostly metal. In the summer I could barely touch the thing until it cooled down. Now I've got the MOMO Shadow. It feels good in your hand (probably too big for some people's taste) and it has a wooden core, which is a two-edged sword. No heat transfer, but you can tell that it's got no weight to it. Hard to explain.

 

The Mazdaspeed leather is a little fatter than the stock ****. And does not have the same weight as the stock ****. I do not think the Mazdaspeed leather has the same quality and feel as the stock ****.

That's why I went back to the stock ****.... jc.

 

Does the B&M screw on, or does it use set screws?

I have B&M short shifter, and I was looking at their *****. I just wonder if they screw on? I only want a **** that screws on...

A **** that will thread onto the shifter shaft is the only way to go, further more a nut that locks it into place vs. a little set screw that is easily overwhelmed by any spirted shifting is obviously a superior design. I've seen some of the carbon fiber ***** become stirpped out and unable to stay on the shaft resulting in problems like what happened to GoodfellaFD3S.
