anyone tried this exhuast gasket material?

i was looking at ways around the 100$ price for the turbo to downpipe gasket, and this came up.

anyone tried buying a sheet like this and cuting it to shape?

Yes. It's somewhat hard to cut, and will delaminate and crumble pretty quickly. I was using it on either end of the main cat - if you tried it on the dp/turbo gasket it would probably toast much faster.

If you wanna go the cheap route, I suggest you try using a thin strong knife to *carefully* restore some thickness to the old gasket. Push the knife edge between the layers and toward the middle of the gasket. If the inner 'ring' of metal comes loose pitch it. This should relieve some of the pancake factor so that it will crush again on next tightening.
