Question Is anyone running the Pineapple Racing dual EGT setup?

I know this product has been out for a while now, are there any happy users out there?

I personally would not get an EGT gauge without a peak hold function and/or alarm function.

I have been running 2 sensor connection mini digital EGT displays with Fast Response high quality EGT probes. Absolutely great set up and an absolute bargain. Peak hold, audible alarm, programmable 5v output that can work with any datalogger.

Rich, by the time that gauge moves you're already on to bigger and better things. Not worth it...

I almost got it a long time ago, but decided against it. EGT is really only needed for logging during tuning or logging during trouble shooting.

I'd get something that will feed into your computer (if you ever switch to an aftermarket ecu).

If you aren't logging it, to see where your rpm's were, boost level, timing, and AFR all are at the same time it doesn't help all that much, as people can get a good tune just by using AFR. EGT logging just takes it to the next level (a level that should require an ems that can log multiple parameters)

I got it Rich, unfortunately it failed pretty quickly though. The optional heat sleeving cooked through fairly quickly and the plastic/rubber coating on the leads melted right through, shorting the wires out on each other. I can take and send you some pics of it if you'd like.

In Robs defense he offered to replace it, i just never got around to mailing the unit back to him.

very limited use for an EGT gauge that doesn't feed into your data acquisition system (for most here, Power FC datalogit)

Rich,

The Veilside FD that I worked on had that kit. The gauge was broken and one of the probes had essentially disintegrated. I would go with a digital setup that you can hook-up to your ECU (PowerFC with a datalogit.... or a real ECU ).

Additionally, I purchased mine from exhaustgas.com and spoke with their engineers regarding open tip vs closed tip. They recommended that I go with closed tip because of the omp injecting regular non synthetic oil into the chamber. In their experience when the tips get coated in the residue from burning regular oil they fail quickly. I went with closed tip for this reason and seeing as I am only using it for diagnostic purposes and not tuning timing with it, the slight loss in response was not an issue.

You do not have an OMP so this will not be an issue, however I did not ask them what affect pre-mix has on the sensor tips. Unless you plan on using the sensors for tuning timing, I would recommend closed tip.

Did they give a mileage estimate for how long it will last?

I am injecting synthetic 4 cycle oil and have put about 3.5-4k miles on my open tip EGT sensors and they both still work.

They were very specific that it is the old "dino oil" that kills the tips and synthetic is ok.

John, I love how we're nearly always saying the exact same things. I'm running open tips, but I'm also tuning with them. I'd be interested to actually see the timing delay with the open and closed tips on a rotary.
