Anyone running a battery cut off switch?
Anyone running a battery cut off switch?
So I was contemplating doing this. But instead of doing a shitty job or reinventing the wheel, I thought I would ask...Was thinking about having a switch either in the engine bay or other to cut all power...Like disconnecting a terminal without the hastle...
I'm curious about this too, since one of these days I'd like to go back to the drag strip. Around here, they won't let you pass inspection with a relocated battery w/o an external cut-off switch. I don't believe even having one in the engine bay qualifies
One of my friends used to just have a pc680 in the stock location (with wires that didn't connect to anything) to pass....

I used a circuit breaker when I relocated my battery. My circuit breaker is located in the rear bin with the battery.

Sounds like you're into the quarter mile - I'm more into the twisties, so I'm speaking from that vantage point. For road racing, your battery cutoff switch must be where the safety workers can get to it - either outside the car, or reachable from the window. You could mount it to the roll bar on the passenger side, where you could get to it, as well as the safety worker. If you are mounting your battery behind the passenger seat, this also minimizes the length of cable you must use. Since people frequently mount their cutoff switches to the rollbar tubing, there are a number of pre-made brackets specifically for this.

Yeah, the rules say.
If the battery is in the stock location, the stock hold-down mechanism is OK. But if the battery has been moved, it must be securely mounted to the frame or the frame structure with at least two 3/8-inch bolts and metal straps. J-bolts are not legal. The rules also require any trunk-mounted battery to have an external battery-cutoff switch and be vented outside the trunk. Also, if a trunk-mounted battery is not enclosed in a box, a firewall must be fashioned between the trunk and the driver using .024-inch steel or .032-inch aluminum plate.
I was thinking of something removal behind the license plate or even rig a switch where the lock is on the rear bumper for the hatch

I like the switches shown here:

Be careful where you put these things if you are mounting it to the exterior.
There was a thread on specmiata.net(or .com?) where the exterior mounted cutoff switch was damaged when the car slid off and the no one was able to cut anything off resulting in a huge fire. I think there were 2 fatalities.
Switches mounted to the exterior body or in a crumple zone or area that's gonna get crushed if/when you hit a wall or another car is not a good location.
