i just got the welder and i wanted to play around with building a few manifolds just to see how they effect the powerband.

anyone know where to get them for the rew...or even the fc's?

i'd cut them myself, but it's so much more trouble than it's worth...

Try Sam @ http://www.bmcrace.com

He owns/operates a CNC machine. I've bought some stuff from him before...super nice and very cheap, too! I doubt he has the flange for a rotary on hand, but if you send him a gasket, he'll make what you need. I needed a special T25 flange awhile back and he made it for me and delivered it in about a week.

I've paid for (piston) head flanges to be laser cut. The quality is good, but CNC is so much nicer.

this will not work: Racing Beat - Mazda Rotary 1986-92; 13B flange; http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda2.htm then click on Exhaust Flanges

also try http://www.mazdatrix.com/e7.htm

I have an intake manifold flange in stock! Machined on a CNC mill at my shop from1/2" aluminum.

-Alex

Edit: Actually, the one I have needs to have a little cut off on the left side. However, I can have one made up over the weekend. I typically machine the ports on the flange to the angle of the stock ports on the motor. However, I can machine the ports on the flange straight, or at w/e angle you'd like. If your interested, just PM me and we can go over all that.

Hey not sure if this would work but it is used on older 13b's. You might get lucky and have the bolt pattern be the same.

Go to exhaust flanges...

i've only got a mig, so i'd like to do it out of steel. i could "technically" do aluminum if i buy straight argon, but i've never done it before, so it'll probably turn out crappy.

what i'm looking to do is build a 1" and a 2" spacer from the lim to the uim and see what that does to turbo spoolup and low end. i'm not looking to get incredibly hardcore into the other stuff right now....but i'll definately do it in the future.

Well, I can machine it in whatever material you'd like. However, I think that if you put a 1"-2" spacer between the top of the LIM, and the bottom of the UIM, you'll run into hood clearance. If I remember correctly, when I got the measurements to build my own intake manifold, anymore than a 1/4"-1/2" taller would start to hit the hood. This was with the liner on. However, it's been a while, so those measurements may not be 100% correct.

i'm not worried about hood clearance. my engine sits a little lower than stock, and i'm raising the back of the hood up anyway.

and to top all that off, it's just gonna be for the dyno....if it works, i'll find out how to make it fit

i'm just in the tinkering mood

shoot me a price for 2 of them in cheap steel if you could. thanks bro!!

Your best bet is to put a 1/2"-1" spacer between the motor and LIM, and a 1/2"-1" spacer on the top of the LIM. That would give you the 1"-2" spacing your looking for.

As for a price, i'll send you a PM later tonight.

with the exhaust manifold i'm using, i think space is gonna be a little too limited for the LIM.

That gives you an excuse to build a new exhaust manifold! I make damn nice manifold flanges for the rotary! I'd put a 100% refund guarantee that no one makes nicer flanges for the rotary!

i am gonna make another exhaust manifold, but i gotta wait to build the new engine first.

i'm copying rotarygod's constant area sleeves...here's the rough draft. don't worry, they'll be nice by the time i'm done with them.

Looks good! Might send some porting work to you when my motor goes. Hopefully not anytime soon though!

3/4" 304 stainless, with a 1/16" 45 degree chamfer around the whole outside, with a 1/16" radius around the exhaust ports for the welds, all cut on a CNC mill. The Rx7 was cut out with a wire EDM 3/8" deep, with a 3/8" deep pocket cut out on the back side to take as much weight off it as possible. I'm probably the only one that's crazy enough to make a flange like this though, and nobody would pay the amount of $$$ it costs to have a flange like this made for them. The ones I make for everyone else are usually 1/2" 304 stainless, with just a lightening hole cut out in the center. I just wanted something really nice on my car!

I can do anything. Literally. I should send you some pictures of my intake manifold. My runners are CNC machined from billet, with 0 welds. I'm also in the process of maching ITB's for each runner. They'll be oval, with oval buttery fly valves to match the runner perfect. That way there's no transition, disturbing the air flow. I'm also in the process of machining a 20B intake manifold the same way for Rich, except he's using a single electronic TB. (Auto Illusions, 1000hp project in the 20b section.)

But yea, I can machine them oval or whatever. It might intrest you to machine one side oval to match the motor, and machine the other side round, with a smooth transition between the two. That way you can still use round tubing.

i was thinking about maybe using round tubing, but pinching the one end oval. then i'd bolt it to the motor and port it from the inside so it's seamless. also, it would be a smooth oval-to-round transition.

but that's off in the future...plenty of time to think about that.

I want to do the same. I was thinking of just running the oval exhaust runner into the sleeve itself (dual sided manifold) and not worry about making a custom sleeve. RG said we knew of someone that did it that way and it worked the same.

In your pics are you just adding metal and reshaping?
