Anyone have problems with their steering wheel?

I have an LS1 FD and I took the car for some tunning on a trip that was around 1400 miles and I took it misaligned, yeah I know.

After I came back, the car just won't align perfectly. I mean, the car is aligned properly, but the steering wheel keeps pointing left slightly.

So far, I have replaced the rear toe links, front and rear sway bar end links and that is it.

My front tires are 245/40/18 and my rear tires are 315/35/18 on Forgeline wheels. I have the Pettit racing flares so I can fit them just fine.

The mechanics have also rebuilt the steering rack, but no matter what, it points slightly to the left. Would there be anything inside the steering hub that might be damaged or out of whack? The rest seems to be fine.

Thanks

No. You can pull the wheel and reset it so that it's closer to center, but usually the thing to do is to begin the alignment with the steering wheel dead center.

I suppose you could loosen the outer tie rod nuts and turn them both (left and right) a half-turn at a time so that you don't lose the toe angle adjustment, but I'd blame the person who did the alignment.

Whoever did the alignment should have made sure that the wheel was straight when aligned. It's part of what you paid for. It can always be realigned, this time with the wheel straight.

^^Agreed. They need to adjust your tie rods until the toe settings are correct when the steering wheel is centered. It's not hard to do, so any decent shop should fix their own mistake for free.

When I first got my car, I had a similar problem. I'd take it in to get aligned and get it back with the steering wheel off center. I'd take it back several times and they would claim that it was right. I passed it off as the alignment guy or machine being an idiot. It has always driven straight and didn't produce any funny wear patterns on the tires, so I just basically adjusted the tie rods an equal amount as to straighten the steering wheel without changing toe.

Fast forward a couple years. I got a job at sears auto center and I was an alignment tech. So of course, I did my own alignments. Go up in the car, set the steering wheel straight, finish the alignment and take it for a test drive. What do you know, crooked steering wheel!! Keep in mind, this was my own car, so I took my time and know it was done right. All my bushings were tight and everything else checked out. I still don't know what causes it, but it sounds like you have the same problem.
