I have the HKS SS BOV but it has the stock flange, so it bolts up to where the stock bov is, right off the y-pipe.

That looks pretty awesome, but doen't it sound lower/perform worse closer to the tb than closer to the turbo?

most tuners say it performs best closer to the throttle body. when the throttle body closes, the air bounces back and needs to be vented quickly or it will hit the turbines and make spooling slightly longer.

so i take it where mine is placed is pretty ineffective??

(im usin dcrosby's pic, but moved the BOV to where I have it mounted...basically its venting one of the hoses off the airbox)...

Lots of debates on the subject, no hard data, just talk so I wouldn't worry about it.

That's pretty much the stock location. I'm sure Mazda put a little thought into it as to where it should go back in the day.

seeing that there is 2 stock BOVs.. did you "join" the 2 hoses or just plug in the SSQBOV in one of the hose?

The two stock BOV's are not the same. One is the CRV which has a completely different operation than the BOV (or ABV as it's called on the car).

Once you run the BOV in the IC piping instead of how it is run stock then you only need one BOV. At least that is the way it was explained to me. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, you only need one BOV (ABV) if you add an aftermarket BOV to the IC piping. You would block off the old valve outlet from the stock BOV but you keep the CRV if you are running twin turbos sequentially.

Yes, unless you convert your turbo system over to non-seq (both turbos coming on at the same time), then CRV isn't needed.

CRV vents boost from the second turbo.....it only does this during prespool when the buterfly valve in the y pipe has the intake piping sealed off to the second turbo. It will also act as a blowoff valve if you go non-sequential. I actually have it acting this way along with the stock blow off valve because they are the same peice. (or really damn close so don't flame me if they have a different part number from mazda)

The Y pipe looks like the BOV flange was cast with the pipe . Extacy 7 how did your modified (stock ) bov work ? For the info,, Jeff who runs Turbo Auto ,in Nashville ,said the place to put a single BOV is near the throttle body .
