Anyone have a clue where this (set) screw goes?

Alright... so my car has been down a while and I'm getting back to fixing a couple of problems.

I rebuilt the motor (with help) a year or more back... dropped it in the car and had a couple of issues. One being a large leak on the oil pan. I'm finally getting to pulling the pan and installing studs and a pan brace.

I dropped the subframe... including removing the steering stabilizer and power steering rack from the subframe.

I pulled the motor mounts and all of the bolts from the pan. I carefully took a puddy knife around the pan until it started to pry loose. As I pealed the pan loose and pulled it off a small screw fell to the ground.

The screw was NOT covered in oil and it was not pulled from inside the pan... it's possible it was resting ON the pan (like on the shelf on the pan) on the inside and it's also possible it didn't come from inside the motor whatsoever. I took a couple of pics of the offending screw (which appears to be a small set screw) and wanted any feedback anyone can give about where you think it might go. I really don't want to put the pan back on until I have determined that it is NOT belong in the motor.

Thanks for your time!

Looks to me like the set screw from one of the stationary gears for the e-shaft bearing. It's supposed to have loctite to keep it from doing what it appear to have done. I've only rebuilt one engine but I think there is an oil return path that would have allowed it to end up where it did.

With the interference fit of bearings I don't know if it's critical or not.

Turns out it's the set screw for the oil pump.

Glen from Arizona Rotary Rockets helped out (thanks Glen).

I checked another oil pump around here and sure enough... exactly the same screw.

It looks really dirty tho so we're thinking it's not the actual one from my pump... going to get under there with a mirror and check it out.

Thanks everyone that took the time to read this!

Yup, I was going to say that that is definitely not the set screw from the stationary gear. That one has a tapered head that sits flush when tightened down.....I've had to order quite a few new ones after removing original ones that were fubared.
