To be quite hoenst, it's ahrd to picture montego blue and red together. Red is a standardized color and to ix it with a non standard would prolly set it apart from it more and ruin the flow of the whole car. In other words, you and others who are looking at it will either stare at the car or the wheels and not both. It's a brain thing and I dont question it .
EDIT: I don't see a pic on the above post...

I have a black R1 & painted the calipers, (front & rear), RED.
I did the "MAZDA" letters, on the fronts, in black.
Looks good to me.
Everybody knows RED brakes make your car go faster
When you paint your rear calipers don't paint the back of the pads! That looks stupid.
For best results remove the pads from the calipers, then the calipers from the car.
Clean the calipers with a wire brush & alcohol.
Mask off the piston area.
Paint & let it dry over night.
Reinstall the calipers, flush & bleed the brakes (good time to convert to Motul brake fluid). Dont spill any brake fluid on your nice new paint job.
Ive seen calipers polished (Waaay too much work to keep up),
painted Yellow (not my cup of tea) &
painted Black (can't see them, but you never have to clean brake dust off them).

I did mine the same way as Rx7even's, I feel that black with a polished logo is alot classier then putting a color on your calipers that doesn't match your car and stands out.

rx7even, that looks very nice. Do you just have to get inbetween the letters with a really small brush to paint it black? Did you do the job with the calipers off as suggested above or leave them on the car?

Ok I'm going to try this again. I just spent about an hour typing up a REAAAAAALLLLLY long how to in great detail step by step, and then explorer crashed and I lost it all. So here we go again, in not near as much detail.
I started by taking off the wheel (duh). Then I took some brake cleaner and used about 1/4 of the can goin crazy cleaning the caliper. After that dried (just a few seconds), I took tape and newspaper and masked off everything around the caliper that I didnt want painted. Then came the paint. I used High Temperature Black Engine Paint that says it's good for 500*. I figured it would burn off from heat when i went on track, but several track events later they're still doing fine. Anyway, I sprayed the caliper (still on the car, pads still in the calipers, it shouldnt hurt them) front and back, let it sit a minute, sprayed another coat, let it sit, sprayed another, till I was happy with the finish (don't worry about the mazda logo, that comes later). I had my car on a lift when I did it, so I did all 4 wheels at once, if you're only using a jack, you can let the paint dry a minute, then peel off all the tape and newspaper and carefully put the wheel back on. Do the same for the other ones. After those all dried (I gave them a day to fully dry), I took sandpaper, starting with 150 grit and sanded the mazda letters till all the paint was off of them, then moving to 300 grit, ect, up till 1500 grit. Then I used some Mothers Metal Polish and polished the letters by hand using a paper towel. I also polished the tip of the pins that hold the brake pads in for that extra bit of detail.
There you go, that should help some.

I just painted my calipers red on MB. It doesn't look bad.
If red and MB don't go together, then they should've picked a different color for the side markers and brake lights.

Powdercoat them
The problem with paint is Maintenance. Overtime, heat cycles, brake dust, and brake fluid will degrade the paint. hell in a year they will have NO shine and be a mess.
What I have done and had real good success with is POWDERCOATING.
the durability of a powdercoated finish is far greater then paint. The stand up to the heat, and all you have to do for cleaning is spray with a hose. Because the finish is so shiny, everything just washes off. The only problem is, you have to remove them from the car and pull all the seals because PC is baked at 400 deg. But trust me the finish is phenomenal! I just called the local rim shop for the names of the places in town that do powder coating. Cost was 100$ total but I delivered them sandblasted and ready to shoot.
Porsche powdercoats their calipers on most of their top cars right from the factory. Take a look at a newer 911 in a dealer lot if you want to see what your car color combination will look like. I have a BB FD and the black 911 Porsche I saw with red calipers and white lettering looked AWSOME!

These pics go pretty well with rx7even's narrative.
I didn't sand the letters down, just painted them with silver paint and an itty-bitty art brush.
I should have sanded them down because there were a few bumps you can see in the last photo that makes the paint look funny. I figure I'll actually remove them from the car, sand blast them down sometime this summer and repaint them so they are perfect.
