Anyone ever swap a glass sunroof with a metal one?
Hey all,
I'll be taking a look at a nice MB '94 touring to possibly buy, and everything sounds good so far except that I don't "think" I care for the glass sunroof (need to see it in person first). I was just wondering about a couple of things --
1) What would you all rather have if you had a choice, a glass or metal sunroof?
2) Is it easy to come by a metal MB moonroof to make a swap (i.e. trade the glass sunroof)?
3) Do you still have the neat "double bubble" contour with a glass sunroof?
Thanks for your thoughts!

Before I actually purchased my own FD, I knew I didn't want the glass moonroof. I wanted a silver FD and I wouldn't think the tinted glass would match at all.
But after seeing the car in person, I think I like the glass moonroof better now. There's better lighting inside. It still retains the double bubble shape. And it's more rare (only had glass moonroofs in 94+ I believe).
Just take a look at your MB and see if ya like it in person

My mechanic has a 94 silver and it has a metal sun roof . He likes the glass better .If they will swap out he said he would like to find a glass one . His 81 GSL had the glass after market insert .

Glass=rare. (and they are not available thru mazda anymore) Looks great with any color.
If you want to sell your glass moonroof and replace it with metal on call me I'll buy the glass. Sould be no problem finding someone to swap I would think.

Thanks for your replies everyone!
So the general consensus I'm getting is that most people would rather have a glass sunroof than a metal one. It does fit in well with a MB FD from the pics I've seen, especially were I to do a tan-to-black interior conversion.
Anyone know offhand how much heavier the glass panel is than the metal one?

I'm not sure what I'll want to do yet. I still have to go see the car, let alone buy it
If the glass looks good I'll probably keep it but if I did trade it I'd probably want a MB metal one (MAYBE it would match right off the bat ).
Thanks though!
