I dunno if this is a weird question but has anybody and if so canyou give some of the details, like what exactly blew, possible reasons and the condition of your engine at the time. I'm curious about a few things.

i did. i would think that apex seal failure would be more likely on a cold night than a hot day because the air is denser so you get more boost spikes...
i think you would be more likely to blow a coolant seal/water jacket on a hot day for obvious reasons.

Blew my engine at night racing a 376rwhp transam up a bridge at around 11pm at night. Running stock boost no less, faulty injector and i ran lean..
Oh well it had 98k miles on the motor, and it'll be done this week and up again.. i've missed driving her for a month I need to hurry and get it done!

at night it is cold and easy to over boost (ie boost spikes). I hit 15psi on new years this past year when racing this girl (turns out shes now my gf ) but didn't blow the motor because of an upgraded ecu but I was LUCKY, injector duty was way to high!

I blew two of the at night. I blew the first one because a turbo gasket was gone, and even though my gauge said I was making 12 psi, the turbos were have to spin a great deal more than that to produce it, so I guess I ran lean. That's the explanation I got for that time.
The second time was more clear cut. I had just installed my EFI and was doing pulls at 12psi, and a chunk of carbon went through my seals. See, I babied the car for a long time because I was hitting fuel cut, so a lot of carbon built up. So as soon as the car ran correctly, the carbon broke off.
I didn't even know until I got off the highway, and was at a stop light. At that point, my idle was rough, and I was only pulling 10 lbs of vacuum.
May you never see these experiences first hand.
