What can we say?? We are the only people who know about these cars. If you dont, your stupid and are about to find out how expensive and unique the car is. I have had people ask me all the time if its a turbo or not. I tell them that all 3rd gen are and they are like "ohh..." From now on i will let my BOV do the talkin.

I know, but you have to give people some breaks. Anyone 23 years old was 14 when the last RX-7s were sold/shipped in. Add to that only about 14K being sold and these are rare cars. If someone asked me if it was a rotary, I wouldn't laugh, I'd say yes and be friendly. Just tell the ignorant Mazda people that its paid for, looks better and its faster than an RX-8

I have had a couple Viper comments. Definitely the turbo questions. From some knowledgeable car-people asking how many turbos. A few know that there are people that go single...

Yeah, that is cuz the c5 ripped the rx off so bad.
I can't believe it wasn't a bigger deal than it was.

I have loved the rx7's since I was 13 (1993) and when the c5 vette came out, my first thought was "What a rip off"

I remember I went to pick up a cousin of mine at his High schoola nd had a bunch of kids thinking that my car was a viper, lol. Also I've been pulled over and have had cops ask me what year my car is, they actually let me go with no ticket, they ha just stopped me to check out my car.
I also had a guy in his early 30's roll up on me in his sick *** Z06 and say nice FD.( he was hella cool didn't try to act all bad and ****.)

With only 2 FDs in country, many ppl see the car for the first time. Some ppl confused it with a Viper or Ferrari also.

But I usually try to be nice. No need to be a jerk if you own an exotic car (which I think the FD is).

And yea... when I tell them about wankel, they ALWAYS ask if I've seen the new RX8
I just tell them these cars are worlds apart and apart from the engine design and same brand have little in common.

I also had a mechanic ask me about my FC "that's not the factory cam is it?"
If you're over 50 (which I am fast approaching) that "no pee stains" might be something to brag about!

(I've owned mine since new in Apirl of 93...)

But the most "What the f*ck?" faces I get, when I tell them its 1.3L engine with 240hp (Euro-spec). 95% of them think I'm making it up, especially when they hear my straight through exhaust

the absolute best part about having my FD is that it's so gosh damn gorgeous! i love the feeling of driving down the road and seeing all the little ricers in the civic hatches start gawking. i've seen a few almost wreck because they got so distracted. i just smile and think to myself... yes, it is better than your car, even with all your "go fast" stickers, the 6" exhaust tip attached to the stock silencer box, and the MAACO $250 yellow paint job that must add at least 50mph and bring your 0-60 down to a respectable 10sec.

sorry for the hating there, but there are too many ricers here that spend more money on paint, bad rims, worse body kits, and tips. i never understood why they didn't just get a nice car to start with, instead of adding crap... to crap?

the ladies also seem to love it, i know at least mine and her sorority sisters do

Corvette didn't "rip off" anything.. they merely added a few known-to-work enhancements to a car they already had.. the FD isn't the pioneer of aerodynamics you know...

Uh Oh.

The largest difference between the vette and the rx front end is the grille openings. I bet if the vette had similar shaped grille openings in the front, you'd be pointing and saying "is that an fd? Nope, another corvette" all day long.
Don't even get me started with the headlights at night.

Hmmm.. For some reason, it seems that only uneducated enthusiasts and ignorant people mix the two up.. I could tell the difference at any angle, any time of day.. There is very moderate likeness. But whatever... Sure it's a corvette. I'll tell them whatever they want to hear, as long as it avoids a nauseating conversation.

well the one thing i will be wondering about is the "is it a turbo?" and the "is it a twin turbo?"....... we know it is better if you get a single but when people ask is it a twin and you say no, they think its not that fast??? how do you explain to them what it is since people have the "twins are better" attitude?

I was driving with a buddy one day, giving him a demo of the car. We were at a stop light coming back, and this older lady (mid/late 50's) pulled up next to us in a newer Buick. She rolled down her window and asked us if it was a new Porsche. I replied, "No mam, it is a Mazda RX-7". At that point, she replied, "Oh, a knock-off." Before I had a chance to say anything else she rolled up her window and faced forward.

Yes I get "Is that the twin turbo/turbo model?" I say, "they all come twin turbo from the factory, Even the base model."

"What color is that green or blue?" Everyone seems to love the car

93 touring Montego blue.

i once pulled into a sunoco in catonsville and was getting "RACE GAS" (100 octane) its a big deal there and theres lots of signs for it. usually ricers go there to get gas for civics and such. the whole gas station was just watching this completely clean, wingless, new dark red paint job rx 7 getting "RACE GAS". and then i proceeded to fly away while shooting flames. i was giving my neighbor a ride at the time and hes just like dude this is awesome!

ive had people turning around in their cars to look at my car on the highway and im just like dude watch the road!

and then theres crazy people that chase me into parking lots and asking what kind of car, what kind of hp, cylinders, how much they are.

i hate when people ask me if its turbo/twin turbo...

Perhaps you are the ignorant one. I do not confuse the two. I am merely saying that the c5 corvette has very similar styling ques as the rx7. Especially in the front region. If you cant see that, get new glasses.

It is not unheard of for car manufacturers to use another popular car as a basis for styling.

Since obviously you are so smart, tell me about the "Rotary Powered Corvette" that was powered by twin wankel engines in the 80's. Obviously Chevy and Mazda had some sort of association going on there.

Why is is so hard for you to think that they may have used the ever popular FD3S for styling ques? After all Panoz did it, and they even admit it. Of course Chevy is not going to admit it, Cuz there motto would then have to be "Like a Mazda" and that wouldn't go over well with the good ole boys that buy from them.

At the time Chevrolet was styling the C5 the rx7 was moving towards its highest popularity worldwide (despite no longer being available in US). They had introduced the new styling in Japan as a proto-now we all call it 99 spec. Plus the announcement that the rx would only be in production for a couple more years. If you were a rotary fan at the time, than you know what I am talking about. All of this happened, and then BAM here is a new corvette with a strikingly similar front pose as the rx7. HMMMMMM...yeah your right, now that I think about it, they didn't rip it off.

Bring it on!!!! I can go all day boy.
