Question Anyone else's tail lights look like this?

I was out waxing the car the other day and noticed something very interesting. My driver's side tail light has round circles on the colored inserts. Not black circles like the 99 (or fake 99) lights, they are raised circles in the plastic. If you look at this pic carefully (it is kind of hard to see but you can make them out) you'll see what I am talking about...

Sorry it is so hard to see, it was a challenge to get a pic that showed them (it is almost not even noticeable in person, even harder with a camera). My passenger side does not have them, so I am thinking maybe the light was replaced for some reason by the previous owner. I am just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before??? Maybe I should sell it (for big bucks) to rzograbian as a template for his 99 conversions.

I have not heard of or seen any lights like this. Has anybody seen anything like this before?

Something I didn't know! Interesting. I'd bet replacement factory lights have that circle. It probably helps the factory paint the lights for the later type.

Jeff, do you know for a fact that the later lights are just painted? I was under the impression (have never seen any) that there was more to it than that, like the circles actually having a "bubble" shape.

i have a 93 r1 and on my passenger side taillights has the same circles. i think the original taillights cracked when the first owner still had the car and was replaced by a later factory one that had these cirlce imprints.

I have a 94 R2 and the lights came with the the bubbles in it...I did the tail light mod and used the diameter of those circles to make the paint masks. I noticed someone has a site up on doing the mod but the sizes he has on his site are slightly larger than the measurement on the bubbles in the light...Interesting.
