anybody used they ebay short shifter?

this is insanely cheap for a short shifter, but it looks like its just the same as the others, just cheaper and maybe lower quality... i'm really thinking about getting it.

It looks like a copy of a copy of a copy lol. I bet the quality is pretty low. If you are interested I have an unused Gotham Racing shifter I will let go for $100.

i mean, my stock shifter works fine, so i'm not really in the market for an expensive short shifter... i just thought, hey this one is only 40 bucks, what the hell...

I have one.

Works great, shifts are tight and short.

No complaints here.

did you reuse the stock plastic spacer that goes on the end of the ball or did the new shifter come with one?

i just wanted to update this thread.

i've had the ebay short shifter for almost a year now and it seems to have loosened up a little. it rattles loudly at high rpm too. i am going to take it out and inspect it, as i'm thinking maybe the plastic spacer that goes on the end is broken, but i suspect the universal joint in the shifter has just loosened up over time. it could be just the spacer though. we'll see.

also, the shifter i ended up getting (i think it was 38 dollars shipped) didnt come with new bolts to attach it so i reused my stock shifter bolts. well the stock shifter bolts apparently only grasp a few of the threads in the tranny turret, so i ended up having to get longer bolts because the shifter popped out one night. this wouldnt be a problem with the one pictured above (one of the ones that comes with its own bolts)
just a little FYI

^^lol Yeah since then i went back to the stock shifter, about 6 months ago. Cut the shifter down about an inch and now its fine. Shifts feel long but i just bought a mazdaspeed shifter so we'll see how that one goes lol.

I hear the MS is even shorter than the b&m which i believe is impossible lol but we'll see.

yeah i think these short shifters are a bit too "short" for daily driving. my second gear is a little notchy when cold anyways, with the short shifter its hard to get it into second gear the first few times.

Yeah thats the same problem i had with the ebay SS. Then i got sick of the notchiness. I rarely drive my car so when something like this bothers me, it makes the little times i do drive my car not worth it.

So im trying to make my car more comfortable so when i do drive it, its awesome.

Is not the Gotham shifter the E-Bay shifter? I have a Gotham and it looks identical to the E-Bay! Only the E-Bay is $60 cheaper.

My assumption is that its the same thing. You will def get lesser quality with the ebay one of course.

shifter

I went the ebay route, but got the B&M off there instead of the ebay one. Looks the same and all, I've had zero problems with it, and it wasn't all that expensive. Can't recall the price, it's been a while since I bought it.

Yeah, I should have known better. The Gotham performs ok. Noisy at full throttle, particularly in 3rd gear for some reason.

Got one in my FD, still going strong, almost 2 years now.

Only thing i did when i got it was take it apart and inspect and smooth the machining marks down and put a better type of grease on the ball.

Yep, on all my FD's. Iv used the ebay jobby, B&M and i think the RE-A is by far the best. Its very solid, tight and very very short. You do get some vibration at certain rpm's because it comes with a brass bush...this can be replaced with a Mazda one for about $10

Im not sure which one iv got on my Rz atm because it came on another Jap car. It may be either Veilside or MS because those are the only i havnt seen before...Its super tight and also pretty difficult to throw if not used to it...

Iv also found that the stock gearknob works best aswell...

i have an ebay short shifter, not only do i daily drive my car, but i normally am in 2-4 drift events a month, and i hammer the **** out of that thing.

its still going strong as hell. for 24$ i cant complain. seriously its a badass shifter i love it. lol. no point in spending 150$ for a brand name.

Finally installed the shifter. First off it was a huge PITA.

My impression. I had an ebay b&m before and although it was short, it was notchy and i didnt like it. I used installed the MS and i believe its just as short as the b&m, if not, SLIGHTLY shorter. yes its possible. I was rowing the gears right after install and i was like holy sh*t!

I was thinking damn i hope its not notchy as the b&m so i took the car around the block or so, as the car warmed up (havent drove my car in 6 days), shifting was alot smoother while staying nice and short.

I think this may be the best SS for anyone looking for a nice short shift and still want it to be smooth.

Bump... What's the least notchy shifter. I've driven the B&M and did not like it at all... Has anyone had experience with both the B&M and the Ebay one?
