Perhaps it's a Heads Up Display (HUD) for guiding rice-seeking missles?

Not sure what it's used for...all I know is that the normal police here dont have them on there hoods...they only come on the "special" cars. Like the Skyline GT-R's, FD's..ect.

I'll tell you what next time I get pulled over, I'll be sure to ask.

Yeah, I have an issue of Option 2 where they cover the rides of the Japanese constable - Skyline GTR R33 and R34s, FDs, Fairladys - crazy.

Its a piece of bullet proof lexan (or something) that will deflect bullets.

So instead of going through the windsheild, they will hit that. Wouldnt want to shatter a windsheild at 150 mph chasing a lowly Ferrari in that FD

At least thats what Ive heard, this pic was in a different thread.

Low flying bullets?

Don't know about it being a bullet deflector, aren't funs illegeal in Japan? ...I thought the cops weren't even allowd to carry them?

Maybe they perfected that engine zapper that kills your computer. Oh wait, it's one of those neon scrolling signs and it says "Mooshi Mooshi".

Yes, it's bug guard.
All the highway patrol cars in Japan have bug guards
on the bonnet hoods.

Looks like some sort of spoiler/air dam. I really can't tell because of the angle though.

I thought they were strobe lights too at first but then you look closely and you see that those things that are sticking up support a peice of lexan or glass or sum ****...

The more I keep looking at that pic the more I think it has to do with the overhead lights. The shape of those overheads look like they could create a good bit of lift at higher speeds. The lexan on the hood may be there to break-up the clean air over the hood and keep it off the lightbar.

It's too far back on the hood to be effective for downforce. If that was its purpose it would be at the leading edge of the hood in front of the wheel centerline.

I think it's there for parking. They have tennis ***** hanging on strings in the garage and when it hits that they know they're in far enough.
