Anybody have 60-90 mph times for their car?

I just did three runs in 3rd gear in my car WITH a 200 lb passenger and got numbers ranging from 3.70-3.75 sec going from 60-90 mph. For this test I floored at 50 and started timing when the speedo hit 60. Anybody else done this and have a number? My mods are 11 psi and M2 stage 3. This was on flat ground in 70 degree still air.

COME ON GUYS: this is really one of the more important easy tests you can do by yourself that shows how strong your car is in the most important part of your powerband. Somebody give some numbers.

i think technonovice started a thread about this. I believe you have to go WOT from 60 not 50 tho.

Hows the car been? I got your PM, still got my cell#? just drop by whenever to drop it off

3rd gear..start from 50 so that at 60 you are at full boost.

I'd have to agree with Aristo to say that the 60-90 mph 3rd gear test would really tell how fast our cars are in our powerband. The 40-70 3rd gear test was pretty cool but seemed to lose interest. Seems like the 3rd gen guys anymore are into how a FEED hood or wing looks on their car rather than how their car performs. It's almost depressing reading the 3rd gen section anymore since there are so many problems with FDs and if somebody does post an interesting topic some idiot will tell them to do a "search" - I'll try the 60-90 test, sounds cool, but I'm getting some break up in my ignition at higher rpms so don't think I'll get good numbers until I get it fixed. Hopefully some other 3rd gen guys are up to it.

how accurate can this be? are you basing it on a stopwatch and the speedometer?

As far as accuracy, some of the error in the speedo will be taken away because you are taking only the difference in speed (subtracting the error from itself)..on my runs all my timings were within .05 seconds, so I think this could be very accurate.

I think Felix has this info on his FAQ page. We do this quite often for the first gens and YES, it is a great way for power testing. http://mrmazda.members.atlantic.net/

Somewhere there he has times. It might just be for first gens. maybe for FD's too. Too bad magazines don't do this test!

I don't think that tests like these using a stopwatch is dead accurate but the 2 40-70 runs that I did were both the same time exactly so it can't be off that much. Not everyone has a g-tech or cartest2000 to be very accurate

ill do the test tommorw.
gtech is very accurate, i took it with me once to a 1/4 miles strip and every run i did it posted the same time as my slip did the gtech was only off by .01 secs! everytime and the mph as always higher on the gtech cause on the track they take the average speed of the last 20 feet of the your 1/4 mile and the gtech just takes it right at the end of the 1/4. gtech works perfect on nice even surfaces. its great to practice launching the car and doing the 0-60 and trying to improve that.

i don't think the g-tech does 60-90 test. it needs to know that you are not accelerating to do its calculation so it's only 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Nice numbers Pluto ...I guess having around 600 rwhp must make life interesting. By the way, down here near the bottom of the food chain, I'm running consistent 3.54-3.58 times in this test with just myself in the car

No joke. for several weeks in the west section I put ads asking the Rx7's if they want to join me at the track (sears point). I almost never got a response. For the aug 14, I got 3 that were interested. I posted the same ad on the S2000 forum and got more than 20.

Sad.

I don't think this will help you with any new science. My FD has about 1200 miles on a new engine and I am trying to press it a little now. I hit an on ramp in third about 50 mph and ran it up to 6200 rpm, shifted to 4th with the foot down and backed off at 100 mph for the next off ramp. It was so fast that my wife didn't even notice to complain.

Yeah, S2000 owners are pretty cool - they'll race anything with their cars. They are always willing to talk and shoot the crap about cars and racing. It's sad, I've had 2 encounters with 3rd gen owners that left a sour taste in my mouth. One was at a stereo shop - he pulled up in a red FD and just walked right past me like I had a YUGO. There are like 5 FDs in the whole midstate that I've seen. I actually had to talk to him. He pretty much thought his car was dominant - whatever - he just had a few bolt-ons. Another I saw a silver FD at the strip. I honked and waved and the guy looked over and didn't acknowledge me. What's up with some of these guys. 3.5-4.0 seconds is pretty fast. I'm hoping to be around 2.8-3 seconds with my new turbos. We'll have to wait and see.

It's even worse with FC or FB owners. I have gotten no acknowledgement or downright hostility from almost everyone I've come across. Damn, when I had my SA22C, I gave the thumbs up to ANY rx-7 driver I came across.

Oh, I'll try to time a 60-90 run tomorrow and see what I get with a downpipe and cat-back.

For the heck of it I did a simulation of JIMLAB's monster with a 2.91 rear end and sticky tires all in 2nd gear and the 60-90 time was 1.8 seconds.
