Anybody ever had their heater go out?
Anybody ever had their heater go out?
strangest thing. My heater worked ok last winter, but now it won't engage. The blower motor and other functions are ok. when I turn the dial to heat, it doesn't sound turn of the coolant flow for the heater. Anyone have any suggestions? I checked all the fuses at the main block and they look ok (the rear wiper still works, also on the same fuse). Anybody have any suggestions of something I could look at before the hassle of taking it in to Rotary Perf?
Thanks
Dan

the electric motor that diverts heat or cold may be bad or the dial is bad
my motor works when I give it power directly through the harness , but when connect it and turn the dial nothing happens .

That's what I am thinking. I need to heat it up and see if the hoses at the firewall are both warm to make sure its not clogged. Is there a way I can test to see if its the motor or the switch?

I didn't think we needed heat in the FD lol, if you dress warm you should be good to go. Also the transmission tunnel gets hot enough to warm me up. Are you just using it to keep you warm? I don't drive mine too much, so it's not a big deal for me. Good luck on finding out the problem though.
I'm having the same issue both TonySeagle and impactwrench have already stated (hear only works on defrost or defrost / feet. As soon as I out it on vent the air starts to cool off. Anyone have any idea on this issue?
Odd - I just noticed a problem of now heat from my car recently, but I haven't tested if it works in the defrost/foot position. I'll check it out.
I'm inclined to think that it has to do with the dial electronics?

My defrost, defrost / feet and feet work perfectly fine. Vent does not. Vent and feet; feet work but the vent still blows cool air. Bottom line; vent does not work.
Is that what your having as well?

Weird - yeah I did confirm that mine has the same issue: hot air on feet and defrost, not on face vent.
I wonder if it's a Power FC issue (similar to the A/C switch fix issue). For those that have that problem, what ECU are you running?

I'm actually right down the tollway from Plano here in Dallas. And I can confirm; cold enough to need the heat!
I too have noticed that heat does NOT leave the dash vents under any circumstances. Heat will only leave the defrost and feet vents. I have read this was normal but I can't figure out why on earth that is the case. It seems like it would take EXTRA engineering to make heat NOT come out of those vents.
Oh, and mine did this when I had the stock ECU and still does it now that I have a PFC.

I bought my car right before summer and its missing some ac components. But i thought id be good when winter started for the heater to work. I tried it a few times when winter started and it seemed to not produce heat but the blower was working great. I didnt notice it work for defrost or feet. Next time i drive it, ill see if that works. No bueno to drive in this cold we are having without heat.

When the car finally warms up to temp the heat from the defroster and feet vents is very good. Just kinda sucks the dash vents don't work. Been thinking about it all night. I can't make sense of it haha
It was explained in another similar thread years ago this way:
The automaker found that the warm air blown from the vents onto your face has a tendency to make people sleepy and could cause them to nod off. So they intentionally designed the system to only blow nice hot air from defrost and foot vents.
I think this was disputed by some.
It's not my information and I can't find the old thread to quote it. It stuck with me as a reasonable explanation because it makes a little sense if you think about it. For me, it is true in my other car which will blow hot from the vents, that I get sleepy on an extended drive if I have the heat right on my face.

I agree with the logic 100%......if I was driving a camry
I have a personal issue that causes the blood in my fingers to drain quite easily when I get cold (white fingers vs red). It's a pain in the dick to get them to warm up without the vents blowing on them. The metal shift **** doesn't help either!

That would make sense if ALL the FDs are that way... I wonder if anyone on here have a FD that hasn't been modified and with say low millage to test this out (low millage so there's significantly less chances of something having been broken due to wear and tear).
Having said that it does make sense however; how are you supposed to warm your hands up if you can't get anything but mildly warm air out of the vents? I mean lets faces it, that's what majority of the people use the vents for in the first place.
