Talking Any have any reviews on EVO-R RX-7 Sleek Headlight Kit

Guys who have this light kit, how do you like it? How's the output of the lighting? Is it worth the money? I havent really seen anyone with any proper reviews of this kit.

Thanks

Pm oorx-7 I believe he has some in his car.

From what I have seen from kits and my own these questions should be asked:
1)light output any good?
2)is it a true head light with controlled lighting?
3) is the kit sturdy? Many are super flimsy
4) what is the clear cover made out of? plexiglass (big fat no)?, polycarbonate?, does it crack easily? is it yellowing?
5)do you have problems with condensation?

But this is my take on those kits:

I was one of the interested parties but I opted out on the final product. IMO they don't look like they belong on the car if that makes any sense. Granted that point can be argued extensively because it's subjective. Either way IMO the lights sit too far forward hence one can tell that the designer made due with the space that he had = 100% aftermarket look.

IMO the best kit out there is the REAL RE Amemiya (not rotary extreme, I have seen both kits in person and to me the rotary extreme kit looks home made). It flows extremely well with the car to the point that if I didn't know a thing about Rx-7s I would believe that the RE Amemiya's were stock.

I have the Pre-auto sleeks. IMO they flow really well with the car as well (not as good as RE's though ) The light out on my kit is way better over stock but I had to spend a little bit of $$ to get them to the point of my satisfaction (hence items 3 & 4 on my list up there).

Thanks for your input, but IMO EVO-R's sleek kit is made for the car. Thats why I wanted some opinions on the quality of the lighting. RE Amemiya's sleek kit is hot too, but I dont remember if it comes with HID's

I disagree completely with montego I think they are one of the best looking light its for the 7, anything that defies the stock body curve is not for me(c-west, east bear, pre auto). But, I have no knowledge of their functionality.

I tried to purchase the EVO-Rs a few months back and there was a long backorder waiting list, so I canceled the order. But as I was researching their functionality, I looked at several at DGRR 07 and talked to the guys that owned them. It seemed to be that everyone of them said that you're better off getting the HID kit with them because you can't see squat at night with the standards. I think two guys I talked to said they upgraded the bulbs in theirs and still didn't have the best visibility on backroads at night. But I myself have no first hand knowledge of this.

WHat are lights for if not to see at night. IMHO, the kit could use a better projector with an added increase in price of course.

Part of me says buy them. the HID option, and the other part says just get eastbear or RE. I want HID, so eastbear looks like it will be since it looks like you can fit a 90mm Hella projector, two of them.

Anyone has experience with that?

So far, I have not heard anyone say something like "WOW, thse lights light up real nice", just that they can't see very well at night.

Also, I am interested in who makes the projectors, if they are projectors of course and what bulb they use, as in brand.

i have 2 kits i bought on the gruop buy last year.
1 only bought them for the housings because i am not using the cheap fog lights that come with it as headlites.
the foglamps look lite they are from princess auto clearnace shelf
they mount to the housings and has a cheap piece of rubber attempting to stop water from enetring the headlite housings.
in my opinion it is a cheap looking kit if you install the complete kit as you bought it.
-i modified mine wher it actually fits and has even gaps between hood bumper and fender ...very time consuming
-i have designed a bracket for hella headlite modules that mount on the cars frame similar to the reamimiya's kit
- i had to modify and repaint the housings with base clear
- now i just got to figure out how to keep dirt and water residue out of the housings after i seal them
now i can justify doing all this because i got a great deal on the 2 kits
if i did not get that deal i will be buying the reamaiya kits

Dom, you should've just asked me man. I've had stock, authentic c-west w/HID's custom installed, then EVO-R's w/HID's again custom installed, and now I'm going with something different.

My review: These are very nice lights for the price. I wouldn't buy them with HID's because the ones they come with from what I've gathered SUCK! I Installed a set of quality HID's and visibility was NEVER EVER a problem for me. They lite up great at night and were even an improvement over the C-west HID's I had before them.

My problem with these lights was the fitment. IMO it was very bad. I've put a lot of time and effort in to my car and the gaps and uneven fitment from both sides really pissed me off. I also had problems with the plexiglass (?) cover. It was almost guaranteed to fly off on me if I went over 100 mph. Replaced it three times!

Summary: For the price this is the BEST kit you can buy. It flows very well with body lines, great light output if using quality HID's and simple installation (i.e. no cutting or extensive fabricating). Only problems are the fitment isn't the best (Others may not agree) and the cover doesn't stay on or stay clean.

Hope that helps buddy. If you have anymore questions just ask .

If anything look into the Knightsports lighting kit. Those look amazing! Otherwise, you could also wait for EVO-R's pop-up headlight kit to become available. I've been following progress on them and they should turn out very nice once completed.

I have this kit and I really like it. I replaced with my own HID's ballasts but the kit itself is nice.

Was it a direct fit? Or did it have some issues as riz mentioned

From my experience don't get the Pre Auto ones unless you really want to fork some money to have someone correctly install it. The stuffs included in the kit are for a half a$$ed install. Not impressed at all...am going to redo the tubs, mounting brackets this winter since the unfinished fiberglass looks like poo and drywall corner pieces aren't really cutting it either for support

I have the Evo-R kit and I think they look pretty good. Yes their was some issues with the fitment but with enough adjusting you can get the gaps even and make them look good.

The covers are very annoying. I tried a few different ways of attaching them so that they would stay on but also come off so I could clean inside the unit when needed. Either way lets just say velcro and double sided tape does not work. I contacted Jay at Evo-R and he said silicone was the way to go. I went that route and haven't had a problem with one flying off since.

I took out the fog lights that they came with and put in 2 sets of the very high end Hella DE Xenon's and they look amazing. I would suggest this kit if your trying to go sleek and keep your prices down. If you got the money to spend then go with knightsport or RE-A.

yeah like I said payed a pretty $$$ (and my own elbow grease) to get them to where I wanted them to be. I even purchased a thicker polycarbonate cover (you know why). But I'm very happy with them now. IMO the rotary extremes where worst than the pre-autos... If I knew then what I know now I would had gone RE ammemiya from the start.

I am not happy with them. I just finished to install them today and they were the most painb in the *** thing to adjust. One base is sitting like 5mm above the other, and that is the lowest it could go. The kit should not cost even $450 for regulars, more like $200. The instructions sucked, and LOL, they were hand drawn, hahahaha. Worst kit out there, two thumbs down.

one of my headlight assembly is broken, and I was looking around for some other options and were leaning towards a sleek light kit, but after reading this thread I'm going to avoid these

thanks for the input guys

I really wanted the genuine RE Amemiya but hated the IPF lights that it uses, so I opted to get the Rotary Extreme kit with the Carbon Fiber buckets and HID, I like the projector beam better than the regular lights even when it is HID.

All I did was purchase the RE Amemiya Lens covers and now it is a perfect combination.

The EVO-R kit is nice but they should have used a bigger light combination so it would look better, they just seem to small for the kit.
