Anyone use Prestone Super Anti-Rust, or know if its a good idea to put into the coolant? because I'm plannin on putting it into my system when i change my coolant in a few days

Not sure what that it. Here in Texas I use regular Prestone with 70-80% distilled water and Redline water wetter. You might need more coolant if it gets real cold where you live. Just don't use the orange Dexacool stuff. It supposedly eats the coolant o-rings.

 

ya i actually used 60 40 water to coolant....but the Super Anti Rust stuff is something you add to the coolant. Its like 8oz of liquid and suposeddly protects against rust...just wondering if its a good idea or if it may have some wierd negative effect on the engine/coolant seals/anything

 

Does it say it's supposed to be used in conjunction with coolant? or instead of glycol with water? In any event, I can't imagine it would hurt unless it's properties somehow reduce the boiling point.

 

Yep! If you notice it's also a water pump lubricant. I use it with distilled water and prestone. Your system will stay rust free and clean and your water pump will last forever.

 

This seems like a band-aid to me. Why not just change the coolant more often?

its not a band aid, i change it yearly....and actually twice this year, but i figure man as well prevent it from occuring. Plus, i've had no coolant in the car for going on 4 days now, because my pettit ast sprung a huge leak at the weld near the top, so i'm waiting on rx7trix to send me a new one, so idk, it sounded like a good idea when i saw it so i bought it.

 

It stops any rust formation and it is a WATER PUMP LUBRICANT, that alone makes it worth using.

 

I guess if it works as a water pump lubricant, that would be good. Do we have any proof that it works? My local auto parts store has an entire shelf of 'miracle fluids' that I would not touch with a ten foot pole...

Yep.
I Had a first gen which I would run to 10,000 rpm daily and it ate a water pump every ~30,000 miles. I started using the stuff and when I sold the car the replacement water pump had 125,000 miles on it and was working fine. I also saw a big difference in the mineral deposits and color of the engine water passages after using it, spotless.

You know, I used to use this stuff. I stopped, figuring that any modern coolant/antifreeze would have additives for this.

I'll go pick up a bottle.

 

I don't think the car needs antirust. The radiator is alluminum, and I think the engine is too right? Maybe I am wrong.

 

The end plates are iron, and would be happy with extra rust protection.

 

as long as you dont run just water and chage it every year. The addetives in any coolent should keep rust out of you motor as long as you take care of it. all coolent should keep rust out put depends on when you change it.
