Unhappy Another sad story

Long uphill onramp, 91 octane gas, 4000 miles on Atkins Rotary rebuild, 10 psi, full throttle to 7000 rpm, kaboom! Very rough idle, stalls, noisy exhaust, flickering vacuum gauge. Gotta be an apex seal, right ? Should I drive to the dealer for the compression test ?

Damn Fred! That sucks!

Yep, I would get a compression test done on it. You might see if you can borrow a tester from a local auto store to do the test yourself.

No, the pmc was holding the boost well. I know that going uphill seems to cause knock, cause I've heard it so much in boingers. Never really thought about being careful in the 7 before this, though. So, should I tow it for the comp. test, or is driving ok ?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Pretty hot time in AZ to be making full throttle runs though. What time of day were you out when it happened?

I don't know where he lives, but here in Colorado that's pretty much all we have. I know of only a couple places across the whole denver area that sell above. Luckly I'm right by one that sells a really good quality 93.5 which most people don't even know about because everyone is so used to using 91. To us here, 91 is high octane unless you want to make a run to get some race fuel, 100 octane or higher.

YUPP, that is why I am in the process of the LS1/T56 conversion. I am realy sorry to hear about your misfortune. I had a similer thing happen mine was a o-ring at 18k. Those things get expinsive you might want to consider the swap over IMO.

I've been running 91 octane (as 92 is like gold around here) for MANY years without a problem.

Some 91 seems to be ok but you can't tell until it's too late.

Pretty much anywhere west of the Mississippi is just like Colorado and you arent going to find much of anything better than 91 at the pump unless you are willing to pay $5 a gallon or more for it. When will those east coasters learn that California isnt the only place with that problem?

Thank god Sunoco 94 octane is readily available here. Yea, it's expensive, but worth it.
