for anyone planning on making one of these.. i bought a 1/4 aluminum rod a while back to make a hood prop, its a bit too thin to properly clamp into the hinge/swivel for the prop.

lowes only carries the 1/4" or 3/8" diameter rod, and the 3/8 looked a lot thicker than the stock rod, 5/16 would be idea but they had no aluminum rods in that size.

i plan on using the 1/4" and slipping some kind of rubber sleeve/wrap over it so it fits right.

how did everyone else get the 1/4" rod to have a snug fit

...but you don't need a prop if you have hood struts. (that's what they're called, right?)

The mazda engineers who built the FD used the slogan "down to the last gram" during fabrication. Thanks to them being picky about every last gram we have one of the best handling cars ever built, my Type R is 2600lbs on dot with a full tank of fuel.

It all adds up, but NO, definitely NOT overkill.

Well you could just mic the stock hood prop and see whether it's actually a metric bar size. I'd bet it's 7.5 mm.

Can I be crass? Take a dump prior to each time you drive your car and you will save as much weight.

something else I thought of, if making a hood prop. for those who have a CF hood, it doesnt need to be nearly as solid built as a stock hood-

Actually the stock hood is pretty light, there isn't a significant loss in weight going to a CF hood.

I am on the 'hood shock' bandwagon, I've been running them for some time now (Rotary Extreme) and love them

I wasn't on the forum when this thread first came out but I think it's great. What else have you fabricated since then that I have probably missed?
