Simple question: If I have PFC and datalogit (which I do) and set the fan on temps (which I have) do I still need to do something else (FC thermoswitch, etc) to make sure the fans hit the right speeds (like high). I've read all the posts and all the mods, but I can't quite figure this out. My '93 has been hitting 105 to 110 lately (in this awful heat) and not cooling down appropriately after parking heatsoak, etc.) Thanks in advance, and if i missed a specific post that addressed this issue with datalogic -- sorry.

 

You do not need to do anything else. It's time to start troubleshooting the cooling system -- t-stat, cap, fan relays, etc.

I understand how the datalogit controls the temperature at which the fans turn on. What controls the 3 fan speeds, and more importantly, when you lower the "on" temperature (with datalogit) does it change the temperature and/or conditions at which the fans hit medium and high speed? Thanks.

 

There are 3 temp settings in the PFC:

fan 1 w/AC: this temp is when the fans are turned to LOW when the A/C is engaged
fan 1 w/o AC: this temp is when the fans are turned to LOW without the A/C engaged
fan 2: this temps is when the fans are turned to MED in any conditions

I'm not aware of what conditions the PFC would use HIGH speed.

 

Very interesting. . .and I've done a lot more reading! I would guess one of two siturations would kick the fans into high mode and I'll test this out when I get a chance. 1) Perhaps all it needs is to be hotter than the fan 2 setting AND under electrical load or A/C; or, perhaps the high speed can't be obtained until the thermoswitch is triggered at 226F! If the latter is the case then one would still need the FC or Miata thermoswitch to trigger the high speed fan operation under 226F even with the PFC and datalogit. This also might explain my car running right at 108C (approx 226F) when it was really hot this past week. I hope this is making sense. . .
