It's not terribly difficult, just somewhat time consuming.

First thing to do is take it to shop that can remove the R-12 for you.

I did that last year, cost $20.

Take a good look at the system so that you can identify all the lines.

You don't really want to remove the heater hoses by mistake, now do you?

The P/S system is somewhat in the way, you will need to remove the bolts holding it, and tie the pump up out of the way IIRC.

Be careful not to dump compressor oil out of the compressor and lines, it's clear and somewhat sticky, and bad for painted surfaces.

The condenser ( or evaporator, I forget which is which) is behind the glove box.

You can remove that by removing the glove box to access the screws, but only after disconnecting the lines that go through the firewall.

This is all detailed in the shop manual, which is BTW available via a sticky at the top of the 3rd Gen forum.

The 2 things you wont' find in the FSM:

1) You need to gut the piece that you take out from behind the firewall, and replace the plastic housing. If you don't, your heater won't work properly. Or you can by a plastic piece made for the purpose from http://rxtasy.com/products.php

2) The hole left in the firewall needs to be blocked. If you don't block it, the passenger's feet will get very hot, or at least that what my wife said. It's now blocked in my car.

ok this is my engine bay:

r-12 has been removed, (i think) by someone who owned the car before me...all i need to do is to remove the compressor these lines that stick out and i thinkthere was something looking like radiator and its just below it...saying that tho if i remove that "radiator shield" will it cause anything? as in bad?

i think i leave the glowbox thingy where it is...it will save me time andprevent the situation with having bad heater thing...can i just leave it?
