The Amazing American Rx-7 Safari!
I have seen several threads questioning the long distance and daily driver durability of their Rx-7. Well I have owned mine for several years and at this point in its life it has seen better days. But, I just drove it across the country. I have pictures ill put up after I get them developed(nuts to digital).
My friend Mike flew into Dulles Intl where I picked him up. We drove to Richmond to rest for a night and started our journey on friday morning. Now, 51 hours and 3400 miles later I am home. We even saw the worlds largest ball of twine and ate at white castle in st louis. pictures and stories to come.

Cool deal! Hell, I not only daily drive mine, I drive it *for* work! I'm working towards getting a proper daily driver just because I hate racking up the miles, but it's been great - no letdowns for me.

I took the disposable cameras to walgreens and ill have the pics up tomorrow(the ones that turned out). I totally forgot to mention that this road trip was not only functional but celebratory. Jasmine(thats her name) turned 100,000 in the first leg of the journey. She ran amazing the whole trip and maybe runs better than before(even on this poopy 91 octane).
I'm telling you guys if mine will make it across yours will too. The engine was not shut off(for more than 30 minutes) for 51 hours!. All I did to prepare the car for the journey was change the oil, change the filter, and juice her up. Cruise control is your friend.
On a sad note I did some math and I averaged about 23 miles to the gallon and ate two quarts of oil. But $500 in gas and food is still cheaper than a plane ticket and shipping the car so I still win. NTM I saw a whole lot of stuff in two days.
dale ~ fear not. you are still my hero. and, if you dont rack up miles on her who will?

Man, I wish my car would average 23 miles to the gallon. Heck, I would even take 20 miles to the gallon .
I've always thought about taking my 7 on a long trip, but always fearful of the tow truck trip back :p. Nice to hear you made it back safely and had a good time.

no sir... in that regard you beat me. my friend and i did it in about 60 some-odd hours. i love my car, but more than 3hours behind the wheel and my friend and i were fighting for the passenger seat.
as for mpg, we averaged about 24 mpg... made a competition out of it too. i managed about 26mpg twice during the trip
