I don't know Brian's mechanical abilities and I usually question some of the stuff I read on here but you folks who want to question Brian's mechanical abilities need to look at the history.
Pineapple Racing sent me not one but three bad engines. For God's sake the first one never even started because when I put coolant in, it came out the exhaust.
Pineapple Racing sent another local guy (search for post by "Petros" for pictures) a motor at the same time as mine that burned a quart of oil in 75 to 100 miles even after putting 3000 miles on it while waiting for Rob to build another engine. Well that never happened after a few months so the first one was sent back. Its got some miles on it now and appears to be alright.
Its interesting to see that warranty. Rob told us he couldn't help with labor and I even got a bill for the first motor shipped back.
I've said it in the past. Rob may be able to build a good motor "himself" but he is a poor business man. After sending three POS he tells me he didn't oversee the assembly of them. I repeatedly asked him when the first motor and on the others if he would personally go through and make sure nothing else is wrong. Of course, you get the answer you want to hear.
I've never taken the time to write up my entire story but I started doing so while sitting in the airport today. Hopefully I can finish up this week and get someone with a fast connection to post the pictures. All contact was initiated by me, phone messages were never returned - its like pulling teeth. A concerned business man would want to contact you and make sure things are right.
Rob is playing the stalling game now. If not already it will get hard to reach him on the phone and forget about e-mail. He doesn't want anything in writing.

I agree that cover an air intake with a shirt ain't too smart nor hammering the car with little or no gas (which I have done inadvertently BTW).
It takes skill to put that engine back into the car; I had Mazda mechanics who wouldn't go near an FD b/c of the complexity. That the car started up and ran is some indication that it was done right.
If Bryan **** the motor up b/c of his idiocies then let Rob deny his claim. If Rob can't prove otherwise then stop sucking on that pineapple.
yeah, i noticed he was sucking on something, couldn't quite place it though
well i ripped the front end off today, took out the oil coolers and drained them, got about 12oz of oil from them
looks pretty clean as i slosh it around in a clear solo cup, smells like fuel- that's about it
i'll post pics in a few, i'm powdercoating my transmission right now

That doesn't sound too bad at all, for what should have been a bullet proof motor ?!?
Really sucks that a 5yr rebuild didn't mean bullet proof for 5 years.
are they going to send you the motor back?

i don't know, i collected an oil sample and i'm sending it off today...hopefully will have the results by tomorrow

What's up with the POS clear hose you have going to the brake booster? Put the stock one back on. It looks better and works better.

oil results are in, scanning now...
high amounts of lead, silicone, and fuel
they disagree with the theory of damage on initial startup
they also disagree with oil starvation on the end of the driver

Has anyone ever seen those cheesy commercials for oil treatment stuff. They take a old V8, take off the oil pan and valve covers and rev that sucker up like crazy while dumping sand and water on it. The sand doesn't get pumped through the oiling system and the water they spray it with just keeps it cool.
I don't think Rob had to go thru all this trouble to tell him what everyone knows. I mean if you see a dead person with a gunshot wound, chances are that he's dead from the gunshot not from something he ate that morning. It doesn't take an expert oil analysis company to figure what is wrong with your motor.
For Rob to go get oil analysis gives me little faith in the guy. I mean he's been building engines and I'm sure he has seen plenty of failed motors. Doesn't take an expert to tell him that it was bearing failure.
This whole thing just taints everything for Pineapple.
I'm still waiting to see what he does for you to get you on the road.

I'm a pretty good friend of Robs. And I don't doubt there have been some problem motors...but what I find interesting is I was PM'd by a guy (I won't say just who.) who was running Evans in one of Robs motors. In his PM he said that he ran straight Seirra for 150miles, then dumped it, added Evans and the car was running 210-230F constantly. After the PM, and in a thread he claimed his car had never been "hot" before. Now I'm no coolant expert but, I'm guessing he did'nt get all the old coolant out, and the 210-230f baked his motor. What pissed me off was that in his threads talking about his motor, he never mentioned it did get hot. Then started bashing Pineapple. I did'nt think that was very cool.
I guess there is allways two sides to each story.
This next spring when I'm having my FD engine rebuilt, I'll be going with Rob for shure. I've had 5 engines with him, (12a Peripheral port, 13B EFI peripheral port, 13B carbed Peripherl port, 13B large street port, and a 13B mild port.) and never once had a problem with any of his motors. Well, minus me doing stupid stuff like forgetting to torque down a bolt on the air cleaner on my EFI pp motor.
, and not running with a fan belt on my 12a pp motor for a couple days.
Bolth where expensive lessons for me.
Bottom line, Rob is not a scammer. CJ

well it's good to finally hear someone speak up on the positive side, i figure most of the happy customers spend more time driving and less time posting ;-)
i have yet to accuse rob of scamming me, i'm just disappointed that my car still isn't running and nobody knows why
