alternatives to the r1 din pocket?
i got my car without the r1 din pocket and now i have an ugly hole in there. so i wet to walmart and bought and installation kit for my car but it didn't slide in like an r1 pocket would. anyone know where to get a dropin replacement or somethign without having to pay $100+ at the dealer for a new din pocket?

If you want easy and cheap, hit the junkyard. I found a plain non-door pocket that goes under the stereo of a 90's 626 - got it for like $2 or something. Fits and looks great. That will tide me over until I get an R1 pocket.
Sad thing is my car originally came with that pocket and the previous owner removed it and put some UBER crappy car stereo kit pocket in there that was held in place with double-sided tape. Barf.
BTW, those pockets are about $80 from Malloy Mazda. Don't bother with your local dealer - they will rip you a new one on any parts costs. 1-888-533-3400, ask for Ray Crowe - he knows FD parts like you wouldn't believe and will give you a VERY fair price.

I don't think there would be enough room with the stock shift ****, unless you've tried it and it works . Seems like you'd punch your drink shifting to 3rd .
