Talking All you short S.O.B's, the R2 seats are the hot ticket!

After 8 years and 112k miles with my R1 seats, I recently swapped them out for a set of low mileage R2 seats. The difference was immediately noticeable----I sit about an inch higher, and there is more side bolstering. I definitely feel like the seat hugs me better, and the added height allows me to have a more commanding view of the road. I never really noticed the problem with my R1 seats, but it's a great feeling to be even more comfortable driving my FD after all these years

Btw, for comparison's sake, I am 5 foot 6, about 185. I know this thread won't help all you 6 footers, but for anyone around my height this was definitely a surprising and worthwhile upgrade

Most likely all you noticed is that these seats haven't seen as much use as your old ones. As the seat is used and ages the foam in the bottom collapses and isnt's as cushy while the side bolsters lose some of their shape and spread wide.

Same thing happens to an old pair of tennis shoes. You don't notice until you buy new ones.

Hmmm.. I'm only 5'9" (5'11" with the afro), and even my Sparco on custom sliders isn't low enough. I'm going to go with a fixed mount to lower it another 3/4"

I can't imagine wanting to sit HIGHER?!

I thought of that damon, but I don't think that's it. I bought my R1 many moons ago and I don't remember the seats having this much bolstering. Also, rambo the barbarian (fdnewbie) has noticed a similar phenomenon, so it's not just me .

anyway, good to see you posting, I was wondering what had happened to ya

Too bad none of the stock seats are like 3" shorter than the R1 seats, haha. Im 6'2" and when im at the track with my helmet on, its quite uncomfortable. Race seat comming next year as I am sick of having my head tilted slightly for whole lapping sessions.

I find sitting higher(keeping the tilt function closer to vertical) is alot better when autocrossing. You get to see more of the front of the car when setting up for the cones. Also your arms and hands are closer to the steering wheel for quick, stable input.

Hm, well the phenomenon is the same on the passeneger seats (which obviously have vastly less miles) so I am sticking to my guns

Hmm. I cut some foam out of my seats to get some more head room. At 6'3" I am sure driving Rx-7's since 1980 has compressed my spine...I used to be 6'3.5"!

It's not the actual seat height, it's the bolstering which allows you to sit higher. The only other difference I've seen is that there is a map pocket on the back of the passenger seat on the R2's.

I'm really happy with the deal I got (bought them locally from DJF-NJ) and esp with the amount of cash saved over sparcos/recaros/spirit Rs etc

Rich, I'm 5'8" and with a helmet on my Touring, I can't even fathom sitting up higher.

Glad it works for you.

I'm also 5'6" but have never wished to sit higher. If anything, I'd go lower to move the wheel up a bit.

I have exactly the same problem - which race seat you are planning to get? Posts here indicate the Kirkey road seat saves about an inch, IIRC.

I'm the same height but with an R1. Maybe 1 inch clearance with my helmet.
