Alarm goes off when I unlock driver door

Hey guys!

I've been searching for about 30 minutes now, and have not found any good answers to my problem yet.

When I unlock my driver door, my alarm goes off. I have to run over to my trunk to open it before I draw too much attention to my self. This is getting down right embarrassing.

From what I have been able to dig up searching is that I should check my lock cylinder. But I have no clue how to get into there, or what to actually check.

So if anyone has any experience or knowledge on this subject, please point me in the right direction.

I had this happen to me before too. The plastic sensor at the back of the door cylinder fell off. It has the cheapest little plastic clips holding it on. You pop the plastic off the inside of the door where the handle is. You then take the nuts off that are under the plastic. Pull the door handle assembly out part way and look at the end of the key cylinder. There should be a round plastic extension to the key cylinder that has a few wires going to it. It should be loose or might have fallen off. Push it back on so that it snaps in place. You can use some kind of mild adhesive to help hold it in place if you want.

Mine's been doing that since I bought it 8 months ago... It's intermittent thought, it seems to only go off when I'm at a parking lot full of people...HaHa

I haven't had a whole lot of luck in term of fixing the problem. The car is put away for the winter right now so I figured I'll just wait till Spring.

I just turn my key back and forth (lock and unlock) and the alarm shuts off, I've never had to unlock the trunk or anything.

Bad news! I went out to the car took of the plastic panel and took off the nuts. Inspecting the wires and connectors, everything appears correct.

Are there anything else that makes sense to check?

Did you try wiggling it a little to see if it was loose? Also look at the little plastic clips holding the sensor to the key cylinder to see that they are fastened and not broken. I suppose the sensor itself could be bad or the alarm. Let's wait and see if anyone else has had a similar problem without the sensor coming loose being the problem.

The cover was on their snug, I couldn't pop it off. Thanks for the help so far Matt Hey!

If anyone else has any ideas to try, please let me know!

ive been using my fd as my winter car because i dont have the money for a winter car but it seems to only do that to me when its really cold outside. usually i would just lock the door and unlock it again and it would shut off but i learned that if i unlock my door and leave it unlocked for about 3 seconds and i open the door nothing happens it only seems to go off when i open it right away but im replacing the alarm with an aftermarket one anyways so this spring im taking it out.

Ok I tried unlocking the door, and not touching the car, it will go off after 2 seconds, ugh!

Is there a way to disable to alarm with out messing up the locking system?

Fixed!

I used this thread: http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...howtopic=35699

Remove the drivers side kick panel.
Unplug the white 20 pin connector.
Unplug the white 8 pin connector that is directly above the 20 pin connector.
Reinstall the kick panel.

Viola, Done! biggrin.gif

The only thing missing now is the warning bong. Everything else is functional!

I have the same problem as you do. I have checked the small sensor and even detached it safely from the tumbler assembly to check it. What happened for me is when I moved the lock lever down then shut the door, all was well, until I tried to open the door again. Then the alarm went off. I'm going to try a few more experiments and see if I can't get some definitive results out of it. I'll keep info coming as I make discoveries. I'm thinking faulty connection somewhere.

Mine seems to come in the cold weather, so it has not been happening recently, annoying I know. But when it was a constant problem I would unplug the connector under the driver side kick panel, I think it is the smaller one. The only problem I gain from that was the interior warning beeping would go away (ie. seatbelt, left your lights on.)

Actually, mine is the opposite. The driver door sets it off and I have to use the hatch to disarm it. Or the passenger door, I just don't feel like walking all the way around the car to do this.

On another note, I checked out a few different things. I pulled off the panel with the door handle and lock cylinder. Then I removed the small plastic cover at the end of the cylinder. I locked the door, closed it, and the system armed. When I pushed down the lever attached to the lock cylinder, the alarm went off. So I figure the problem, at least on my end, is that there is a faulty connection with the little plastic sensor that is supposed to disarm the security system when the lock is turned with the key. Or, since there are two wires coming from the tumbler assembly, there is a bad connection there. But I figure the two wires at the lock cylinder are for the light. Yes, it does exist. :-)

I figured out my issue. During some work on my driver door speaker, which doesn't work (I'll get into that later. Crazy story), I found there was a 4-pin clip and a receiving harness not too far away from said clip. I tried to connect them and there was much tension in the wires. The wire wrap coming down from higher up the door to the clip was wrapped with the same sheathing that I found to be up at the tumbler. After much playing, I found out that last time I had the door speaker out to figure out why it wasn't working, I pulled out too much slack in the wire harnesses for the door controls. It was the window rolling down that separated the clip for the lock from its harness. Upon readjusting the wire harnesses, and a few window tests, all is well. The damn wires for the lock are too short with improper window control slack. Oh well. Hopefully this complicated explanation helps somebody else.

As for the speaker, my headunit has decided not to put forth a left front signal or remote (for sub amp). Imagine my frustration when I finally had it bench-tested at a circuit city (where I bought it) after a month of dealing with it, and learned the problem is the hardware, not the car. But now, both problems are solved. Whew!
