airpump hose wtf
i've got an apexi intake and the hose to my air pump is split at the air pump. i've seen pictures of people who put a filter on the airpump intake. where can i buy a filter for it and will that hurt the pump at all? this sounds like a stupid question. I checked the archive and couldn't find a thread on it. thanks for the input.

I HIGHLY recommend against clamping a filter on the air pump itself. Mazda issued a TSB on this one - the airpump sucking in hot air will greatly shorten the life of the airpump. While airpumps are basically a dime a dozen, I don't see a good reason to ruin a perfectly good and functioning part on the car.
I'd either fix the hose from the airpump to your intake, or get a long hose to a K&N filter mounted somewhere it can draw cool air from. K&N lists in their catalog small filters with 7/8" or 1" inlets that are perfect for an air pump filter.

do you really even need an air pump? I mean arent they just for emmissions? I live in wisconsin and we dont have emissions checks, can I just take it off and be done with it? Will it hurt the engine at all?

doesn't the airpump blow air into the exhaust? and if so when putting on an aftermarket exhaust how do you plumb a new fitting for it. or do you just leave it blowing to atmosphere? i bought the hose and i hope that it'll last untill i figure something else out. re-routing a stand alone filter for it seems like a waste of time not to mention a headache in the engine bay. we hooked up a duck call to my brothers bov, yes it sounded like a duck(quuuuuuaaaaaakkkkkkkkk), but we couldn't find anywhere to mount the extra hose. i think i'll stick with the hose and keep it stock untill i do more work to the engine. i've got a friend that's going to make some hard intake pipes from the intake to the turbo's, i'll see if we can work on a differant hook-up for the airpump and the other hoses. and yes the duck call is off the car.

You don't need it. I eliminated mine when I was going nonsequential.

Rynberg: Would this rough idle you're describing be accompanied by low vacuum at idle? My car used to idle fine and vacuum would be around 16. But I unplugged the airpump today cuz it was squeaking and now my car idles around 500 and feels like it wants to stall. On top of that my vacuum at idle shot down to 10~12.
When I'm driving the car feels fine and pulls good. But when I'm stopped I have to maintain light throttle to keep the idle from faultering. Just wondering if those symptoms are related? Thanks in advance.
