Airbag light comes on 3 times, off, on 3 times, off... so on, so on..

I'm sick of FD's..

This isn't my car.. and I'm done looking thru the manuals because I'm lazy.. I'm going to post it like all the newbies out there..

So, help me save some time.. because I don't even know where my manual is and all the cd's that I used to sell, I don't know where that is either.. and the "iluvmyrx7" manuals, I just don't want to mess with downloading those PDF files and such.. I'm completely lazy and worn out by all this RX7 stuff.

Sounds like the sensor is unplugged. Did you check the plug under the dash?

my airbag light does that. and its because i dont have an airbag plugged into the airbag harness in the steering column nor do i have the resistor to make it stop blinking. not sure how many times its blinking though.

I know this is not in herblennys case but if you have an aftermarket wheel, you have to take the bulb out (unless you dont mind a piece of tape stuck there to cover the blinking). Once you take out the bulb the car will now sound a warning beep. To stop this you have to unplug the Airbag comp wich is under the drivers footwell, on the right side. Its a yellow box, once unplugged your good to go.

I know it was said but have you checked the airbag plugs? was the other owner fooling around in those areas?

I have an aftermarket wheel and i did not take out the light - don't remember what I did because it was 3 or 4 years ago. I followed the instructions on Steve C. site.

Mine blinks too the same repetition. The previous owner took it to a Mazda dealer, they gave him an invoice of the problem which I still have. It was a bad airbag sensor. He never got it replaced since you can imagine what they charge for it.

He's right. But just a warning...I did the above, and didn't realize that taking out the airbag computer doesn't just get rid of the warning - it disables the airbags completely - BOTH. My point is, while I don't care for the airbag, if you have a 94 or 95, keep in mind that your passenger is now w/o an airbag as well. For that reason (passenger is a big liability/responsibility IMO), I would have rather dealt w/ hearing the 5 beeps upon startup than lose the passenger airbag and the beeps. So just keep that in mind. (Oh and getting the computer out was a COMPLETE pain, which is why it's staying out lol)

Chris, is it an aftermarket wheel w/ an airbag? If not, what hub are you using? Because the Mazdaspeed hub had an airbag sensor wire thingy so the light and beeping wouldn't occur. Also, I followed the directions on Steve C.'s site too less than a year ago, and it definitely tells you to remove the bulb and disconnect the computer. If you are sure you never removed the bulb, then your bulb is blown

I have a 93 so no passenger air bag anyways lol, so im all good. As for the comp, you dont need to take it out, just unplug it. the harness from the box, takes 30sec...

makes sense, because his car also has problem starting.. and when it does start.
seems like the car wants to die when it warms up.

Momo wheel - Race

Actually, I used a Momo hub and the original spinning piece (behind the air bag black/yellow) to jumper the horn and install a 10ohm resistor to ensure the light does not keep blinking.

I don't remember the wiring configuration, sorry. I remember testing each wire and soldering some wires together but it has been about 5 years now. I am not smart enough to do it on my own, so I know there was a write up about it somewhere.

all u need to do is splice a 1 ohm resistor into the clip for the airbag sensor. u can pick these resistors up at radio shack. it really is an easy fix.

Any update on this ? I have the 3-times blinking sequence as well.

Where do I look for the "open-circuit" or "poor connection of power source" ?

TIA,
:-) neil

<SNIP>

Part of the diagnosis flow-chart for 3-blinks, is too remove the airbag diagnostic controller in the driver's side footwell.

Which one is it ?

Thanks,
:-) neil

PS: Also found this "yellow" wire shorting out (just stuck in) a the "blue" connector connected to black relay labelled, "H302" ? What's the function of relay H302 it is shorting ?

I was looking in the wrong area.

The airbag diagnostic module is located between the dash and the tranny tunnel.

Per the thread below, what typically goes bad is a resistor fuse and a couple of capacitors. The fuse usually blows if the resistance on any of the crash sensors is not to spec.

Check it out here:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/93-diagnostic-module-rebuild-807185/

1) One 1/4w 10 ohm resistor (fuse)
2) Six 1800uF 25v; DigiKey #493-1836-ND (Nichicon #UPW1E182MHD6) .78 cents each.
3) One 1000uF 25v: DigiKey #493-1305-ND (Nichicon #UVZ1E102MPD) .52 cents each.
4) Three 47uF 16v: DigiKey # 493-1775-ND (Nichicon #UPW1C470MDD) .26 cents each.

BE SURE TO READ THE FULL PROCEDURE INCLUDING PRE-CAUTIONS.

I'm pulling it later this week.

:-) neil
