Air / Smog Pump removal and new belt

Fir the county I live in smog is not required. Is there a way to remove the smog pump and all the other crap and put a new resized belt to just go around the crank water pump and alternator?

Bill

If not I need a new smog pump to replace the broken one I got it has cut 3 belts.

yes but you will need the new pulleys and block off plates to do it correctly, some have tried using a downsized belt but found that it would wear out extremely quickly.

You do NOT need aftermarket pulleys. Just get a 300k4 or 300k5 belt (if you can find a k5, great! You will probably have to settle with a k4).

Get or make block-off plates and eliminate EGR and ACV while you are at it.

Where can I find these parts

Ok I am already planning on taking the smog pump out. Can someone tell me if they are able or have located a 300k4 or 300k5 belt. I would also like to get the blocking plates for the EGR (I am guessing the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve) and the ACV (Air Control Valve)?

I was unable to locate the correct belt and got sick of trying to find one. The closest belt I found would have needed me to lengthen the alternator adjustment slot on the bracket to raise it up a little higher. Too much work when you can get the kit from Rotary Performance:

http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fdengine_accessories.html

Look near the bottom for "RP Air Pump Removal Kit". Grab the "RP 8-Piece Block Off Plate Kit" and you will be all set.

That's what I would recommend. Good luck!

Don't look in the usual auto parts stores (advance auto parts, pep boys, discount auto, etc) for the 300k4. I found mine at an industrial machinery/truck parts warehouse. Look for one in the phone book. Call first. I also got my asbestos DP wrap at the same place.
