Air separation tank size

I've done a number of searches as there is plenty of ast threads but didn't find mention of size.

I'm just ducting my v-mount and it doesn't really leave enough space for the ally ast that I have, I've been considering eliminating it altogether but I'm not quite convinced yet. So I was thinking of getting a custom one made to suit the little space I have.

Is there any size requirement, dimensions that are required for it to be effective? All the ast's I've seen photo's of would appear to be about the same size, is that coincidence or design?

size doesn't really matter but most only hold at most about a pint. the OEM held about a 1/2 pint.

Thanks.

I may be thinking about this too much but is the depth more important than overall volume, i.e. if it's too shallow it won't function as there's not much head space?

I'd feel happier keeping an ast but it's pointless if I have something made that can't function right.

Thinking as I'm typing does the ast stay completely full in normal operation?

IMO taller would be better than shallow but there's always going too far. the point of the AST is to remove air from the coolant, a shallow fat tank wouldn't do this as easily as a taller cylindrical tube would.

you could basically make it a box shape or an egg or whatever and it won't make much of a difference. find a spot and make it to suit where you want to mount it.

Thanks for that, taller does make sense.
