air pump questions

i was wondering is the air pump necessary to have, i purchased a car witha blown motor and some parts were missing so i am making a parts list to order so i can finish my car. i have read that many people remove the air pump completely. is the air pump a necessity? any info on this topic would be appreciated. also what is the purpose of a variable thrust controller, one came with the car i purchased but the vacuum hoses were not hooked up so i dont know where they plug in.

thank you, Cory

Depends if you have emissions testing or not. If not you can remove it and the cat. However with a midpipe or resonated midpipe will most likely have boost creep or spikes. Search around there's plenty of info on it
