Air pump block off?

I just reinstalled the engine in my car and ended up buying a mid pipe without any air pump hook ups. I just ended up installing a block off plate at the back of the engine where the pipe would come and go to the converter.

I still have the air pump connected and working as it should but with the pipe blocked off what will happen? Should I just install the pipe and run it open?

If you have no cat, there's no good reason for the airpump. It's dead weight at this point. If you do need to pass emissions, you will need a functioning cat and airpump.

If that's not a concern, get a good blockoff plate kit (Banzai Racing has a really nice kit) and get a good idler pulley (Pineapple Racing). Bare minimum, unplug the power connector to the airpump and block off the hole that the air pipe for the cat attaches to.

Oh, if you have a stock ECU though, the car will run crappy with no airpump. PowerFC = no problem.

Right now if you run the airpump with that pipe, you will get all kinds of goofy noises. Car will run fine, it will just be embarrassing.

Yeah I kind of backfires more than usual. I will probably hook that pipe back up and just run it open until I pick up a ecu to properly run without the air pump. Thanks for the info though.

most of the air pump air either gets vented or goes to the exhaust ports, the pipe is a little bit of a red herring, its not as important as it looks.

my preference is just to leave it open under the car, but you could also remove it.

I have it blocked off now at the back of the intake, could I just take off the plate for now and leave it or should I put the pipe back on and leave it open?
