Hey guys,
It's getting hot, and I just don't trust my factory temp gauge anymore. Can someone please explain the difference between a mechanical temp gauge and an electrical one, and the install differences? I'm assuming the electrical one would splice into a wire at the ECU, but how does a mechanical temp gauge get it's reading?
Also, let me know what type of temp gauges you guys are running. I'm looking at the Autometer Ultra Lite series because they look good and they're economical. Unless there is a huge difference in quality, I don't really see the need to spend $100 or more on one. TIA....

You can get the answers to all of those questions by searching, but I'll tell you anyway. Both mechanical and electrical gauges require you to put a new sensor somewhere in the cooling system. The mechanical supposedly are a little more accurate, but a heck of a lot more cumbersome to install. I am currently running the autometer sport comp electrical gauge and haven't had any trouble. I installed the sensor in a drilled and tapped hole on the flat lower part of the filler neck.
Here's a thread I started long time ago. Should answer your q's.:

Great, thanks for the info guys. I had previously looked at both Rob Robinette's site and Steve Cirian's site, but this was a little more helpful. I'm ordering an electrical gauge today.
