Cool After reading all threads on the new AEM EMS I kinda leans toward its...

Looks like it can do alot of our FD with good tech support and customer service at you finger tips unlike the Power FC dammit those Apexi integration if only we can have some kinda of support and that power excel software from Apexi can resolve alot of problems we have thus far. But anyway if I have a few testimony on owners that have it in their car I sure will ditch my power FC for the AEM one. So I figure it is a good time for cause I am going for the bridgeport. So all I see is big HP and reliable and this could possibly be the missing link and I am sure that with decent tuning and good reliable mods I don't see that our FD will blows up. Any way here is my new setup:

Bridgeport with 2mm Hurley
Greddy T-78
550cc and 1600cc secondary
SX FPR
Weldon fuel pump
Power FC/AEM???
UR race pulley sets
Greddy 3" DP via 4" Feed Ti exhaust
Quiafe 6 speeds dog engagement depending on availability/KDRotary racing spec transmissions ie cryogenic treated gears and shaft
OS Giken twin clutch
CF driveshaft
KAAZ rear end
4.30 final gear ratios
Race axles
Tri point Front/RacingBeat rear swaybar

looks like a great setup! I kind of like the new AEM ems too. We'll see how it turns out.

Does anyone know which rotary tuners will be suporting it?
I would not want a non-rotary shop to dyno tune my car.
XS said they are not going to sell it or tune with it.

With datalogic out there is little difference between them. THe only thing is that many shops tune the PFC and there is a large base of owners to get help from. Maybe in the future the AEM will have the same deal but for now there is little/no knowledge base for it. As for customer service everyones your best friend till they sell something to you, then alot of them don't want to be bothered. So they have to prove that part yet.

Dave at KDR will be doing mine. He's supposed to go to a seminar on it soon.

AArotary: sounds like we have very similar setups I went with the AEM also.....for availability of tuning shops. How come you decided to go with a BP? That's a little big isn't it? What are you planning to do with it?
I'm gonna be changing my CF driveshaft to a custom unit that I'm having built.....I've had a few friends with Supra's break them and I don't want to be next. Have you heard anything good or bad on them?

I want more top end power so basically with the BP it wil give me like 30-35hp on top of my previous SP and I am going to some 1/4 mile passes see what it does with this setup. As far as the CF driveshaft goes I have the stock unit now and the CF driveshaft would do it for me.
Well I have heard alot of good rumors about them.

What?

Datalogit will provide some more flexibility to the PFC, but it hardly comes close to having the same number of features as the AEM. Traction control, knock control, on board datalogging (so you don't have to have a laptop every time you datalog), NO2 control, etc., etc., etc.

Many shops that tune the PFC? The only shop that can really "tune" the PFC is XS. Probably because they are the only ones with tuners that can read the software (Japanese). Everyone else is limited to playing with the base map modifiers that the Commander gives you access to. That will change with Datalogit, but I think that only the beta testers have it now.

I have a PFC, I am getting the Datalogit (hopefully it has shipped???) and I will still likely make the change to the AEM in the future.

AEM is an established company within the USA. I really don't know what their support will be like, but I can't imagine that it will be worse than Apex, GReddy, or RE.

As for support, one of the main designers, and FD owner, is a forum member here and on the supra board, and answers any and all questions! You can't beat that for tech support -

AA: It'll give you a reason to put together a computer system as part of your ICE. High resolution LCD screen, DVD player, MP3 Player (With visualizations), 802.11b Wireless Network, Realtime datalogging, you can change your maps on the fly...etc. Get a Navman from Rand McNally, and you can then have GPS and street maping/directions as well.

Can you tell I've been researching this stuff so that I can make myself a cool little system like that?

I second what mmaragos said. The AEM will kick the crap out of the PFC if it can do what it has set out to do. Basically everything is programable in software. You limits are your imagination for the most part. Can you imagine having knock control and traction control all built in to your main ECU? This makes tuning easier and probably safer in the right hands. Also the datalogging is top notch because you can have user inputs where w/ PFC you are really limited to what the ECU sees.

I may be missing something, but who the hell would want traction control?????

Seriously, I'm having a very difficult time deciding on whether I should upgrade my ECU or not. It's currently an old XS Engineering setup which seems to work fine although it's definitely rich. At first I was completely sold on the PFC because of the commander. I really liked being able to take a look at all the sensors and error codes, not to mention the ability to tune (pretty cool to be able to drop the boost before you leave it with that mechanic). I really doubt I would be doing too much tuning in the first place. Plans would be to take it and get it dynotuned and then leave it alone since I'm really not into popping an engine. But after all the negative stuff I've been reading, I'm getting scared off from them. Is there anybody left out there that's happy with it???

Does anyone have an idea of how good the knock control is? Can I ditch my J&S?
