After a hard run engine red lines by itself.

Recently i went to the track and after each pass on the return road my car would either red line or go up to the highest RPM i had it at. Sooner or later it would settle down but i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of where to look?

Info on my car:
PFC
Single
Fuel system
just replaced the dashpot(happened with the old on also)
and the rest of the bolt ons.

Thanks
~Luke

I would start simple: your throttle is sticking. No way that the motor can run that fast without the butterflies opening.

Closely inspect the entire throttle cable assembly and pay special attention to the little rubber grommet where the accelerator cable comes out the end of the jacket on the throttle body. Mine popped off once and wedged the throttle open slightly.

Happen again today and here it what i noticed:
When my foot isnt on the gas my TPS is about .46/1.04 and when i gas it those number jump up. When my little reving problem happens the numbers are the same as if the throttle is closed so as far as i can tell the plates are not stuck open.
Also when it is redlining itself the car will speed up by itself but not to fast.

Anymore ideas after that?

Thanks
~Luke

Mine did the exact same thing! PFC i was running it hard after about 2 weeks of owning it when the car seems to have a mind of its own. I made sure the throttle wasnt stuck. 10 seconds later the car went almost to idle and bobbed up and down for about a minute from 1-2 grand. Possibly bad sensor information? I dont know.

Mine take a little longer then 10 sec more like 5-10 min of running or being off, either work. So did you end up changing anything?

Thanks

If the throttle is not stuck open, there are some other sources of air (not including leaking gaskets):
(1) AWS solenoid stuck open, or
(2) ISC solenoid stuck open, or
(3) PVC valve stuck open.

With the PFC, the AWS solenoid can be removed and cover plated without having an error code or alarm. It is not really needed, and I bypassed mine years before the PFC came out.

The ISC solenoid is easier to get to and can be taken off
and the valve area cleaned.

I've taken all the emission devices off the car and used block off plates but i'm not quite sure which one the ISC is. I've probably taken it off but just not familiar with the abbr..

Thanks
