i had squeaking like that too....but it turned out to be a loose heat shield close to the main cat. definitely check that out before before you start replacing suspension parts!!

I will be doing this process in the next 2 weeks and was wondering if an impact will work to get the bushings out.

I see yall are bending washers which probably means I'll have to use a breaker bar.

I just used a 1/2 inch rachet and an open end wrench and it worked fine. No need for a breaker bar. An impact wrench might work to get them out but I wouldn't use it to put them in. Of course I don't own one either.

Twinturboy - I doubt that is bushing but you never know. I had a terrible sqeak and it ended up being my hood. Just a little grease on the rubber stoppers and it was solved.

Zbanger, sounds like the pillow *****. Mine clunked both when applying the brakes and when releasing the brakes. . .mostly at low speed. The ***** are in both the lower and upper arms. Good luck

exactly. You can test this by rubbing some motor oil on the rubber stoppers.

I have eibach springs and tokico illumina shocks. My guess is some bad bushings or something. Never got around to checking it out since I have too many other problems with my car. Just thought I would throw that out and see what you guys think.
I have the same squeaking problem, and it's NOT the hood, it's when I get in and out of the car, when going over bumps, I hear a squeak from the front suspension, any clues on what it is, how to repair, and how much it's gonna cost to fix?

Just going through the Mazda parts listings and when you get FD01-26-220 you can also choose FD01-26-230. Anyone know the difference? Also there seems to be two other pillow ***** on the inboard end of the toe control link:
FD01-28-42Y BUSH,PILLOW BALL

There's no choice. The 230s are for the outboard end of the toe links. The 220s are for everywhere else.

Can someone describe the "clunk" sound? When I go over gravel and rough pavement I get a rattle type sound in the back. I think its my Pettit toe links and trailing arms but I'm not sure.

Are you sure that's not your hatch hinges (another known rattle)?

pretty sure, it sounds like its coming from under the floorboard where the trailing arms attach. I've heard the hatch rattle and it sounds different from this

Where are these bearings located? Is there one in the upper control arm and 2 in the lower "I" arm. Does any one have pics???

I know nothing. No-thing

As for the sound - trust me you'll know. The hatch rattle sounds like an inconvenient rattle. The rear clunk, sounds like major suspension movement. It's sickening stuff. I guess it's similar to a diff clunk.

jwhite94RX7 -> cool thanks. The parts prog thinks they're interchangeable but you can see in the text below on the diags I posted that they're two different part #'s. Thanks for clearing that up.

is it only these bushings that would be bad? What about the others? There are 3 more bushings in the upper control arm and 1 more in the "I" arm. Different part #s of course, but wouldnt you want to do these as well.

i just installed my new bushings a couple days ago, wish i had done it a long time ago. aside from things in my hatch making noise, i have no more clunking and i love every second of it. brings back that "i just got my 7" smile

I do know that sometimes Mazda uses different part numbers for the same parts. For instance, looking at the vacuum solenoids (rat's nest) All of the solenoids are identical except for some have air filters and different color dots, but they are all AESA127 solenoids made identically.

I guess I'm lucky that I'm a BMW tech. When I finally decide it's worth spending the money on the bushings, I've got a shop with lifts, air tools, a press, etc. Everything I could possibly need. :-D

I hear ya. Have a family member that owns this business http://www.ocrinc.com/index.htm and get parts at the shop's cost. Just ordered up the inner and outer Toe-link bushings.
I also recently bought a small shop (old gas station) a few minutes from my home. Although it's mostly for storage, soon it will have an SPOA7000 Rotary lift in it.

i pressed my own bushings in just last week, pretty easy to do.

I used a 38mm impact socket, a 20 or so mm socket, put a 140mm x 10 x 1.5 bolt through, used lots of washers and pressed mine out, took me an hour a side and its pretty damn easy to be honest. Those circlips can be a bitch though, very frustrating.

Car does feel alot better now too yeah!
