picked up an AEM wideband and need help installing it. Going with a power fc tweak and looking to do some self tuning. I’m pumped.
First, I am going to install the bung right near the downpipe / midpipe flange but on the midpipe side. Where can I run the wire to get in to the interior of the car? I’ve seen a post that you can run it through the shifter area. Is that correct and the best way to go? I don’t recall seeing a hole there. Do I need to cut into the rubber boot?
I am going to mount the gauge on the steering column. Is the Pettit steering column mount my best bet? Just concerned with it bc it’s designed for a 2 inch gauge and this is 2 1/16th. So looking for other options? Is there another vendor?
anyways. Been a long time since I posted. Hoping to bump into some old heads if still around.
Innovate LC-2 here. I don't think there is a 10 minute way to install; it will always be a lot of f...ing about..
I came up through the rubber coated metal cover plate that incorporates the boot.
The hole needs to be big enough to pass the connector(s) through. The connector on the sensor is usually a bit of a monster so size for the connectors on the controller end. I rounded the edges of the hole with epoxy putty and added provision to cable tie the cable after passing into the cabin. After sorting the rest of the run I used amalgamating tape to enlarge the cable diameter and plug the hole.
You then need to secure the cable run from the sensor to be clear of the hot exhaust and clear of the drive shaft universal which is close to the cable entry point in the cover plate.
I fashioned a bracket that attaches to the 2 holes in the speed sensor - one hole sandwiches the speed sensor flange and the other uses the additional hole in the speed sensor flange. I cable tied the sensor connector to that bracket.
I added a tab under the front right bolt of the gear lever housing and cable tied the cable here to ensure that it does not droop into contact with the drive shaft universal joint.
There are other options. My 2nd preference for a RH drive car was:
Up over the gearbox
start cable tying to the gearbox wiring
continue tying off on the starter motor wiring
through into the inner guard.
remove the inner guard lining.
slit the bulkhead grommet
pass into the cabin. (might not be as easy to route as it sounds)
seal the slit
This method places the sensor connector somewhere over the top of the gearbox which might be a pain come time to remove the gearbox.
I'm running gaugeless. PFC-Connect logging & FC-Tweak provides all the ongoing monitoring I will be requiring
If its the x series it will not work in the column pod. The old and outdated version of the gauge will though.
The bung needs to be 18-24in away from the flange of the downpipe between 10 and 2 o clock. I'm pretty sure it mentions it in the instructions
To route the wire into the cabin go through the engine harness boot. Poke a hole on the bottom and run the wire through. Yes its more work but its a better solution as far as cleanliness. Having a wire come in through the shifter hole just doesn't present well to us. This is a diy method so the shorter and easier way would probably make more sense though.
Thanks for the info This engine harness boot is near the ECU on the passengers side right?
And yes it is the X series. Why will it not work in the column pod?
18-24 inches from the flange? huh

I had my bung welded near the DP/MP connection area at the 12 o'clock position. I was able to tuck that wiring into the heat shielding and run it toward the passenger side. I used a metal hanger to pass the wires through the engine harness hole. I have my wideband in the center console under my stereo. I then ran the 2 wires to my glovebox where I have my datalogit.
