Advice on setting shift lamp

Hey guys, just got my self one of those pivot shift lamps, the annoying thing is you have to set it to actual revs! So is it ok just to free rev the engine to like 7.5k or is it better to do it while engine is loaded like in 2nd gear or something? or makes no difference?

thanks

Its fine to free rev it, but only if its warm. I wouldnt do it too many times either cause it is a little hard on the motor, but if your just setting something and it should only take a few times your fine.

I have the pro version mounted on the steering column. It's pluged in to the cigerette lighter and works fine that way except if you disconect the battery and then you have to reset it. I wanted to hard wire it, maybe some day.

After a short trip put the car in neutral with the emergency brake and you can rev it that way. You can also do it on the highway but it's very hard to open her up and hold it at the high of rpm and speed. Mine has three lights so it's set for 6.5k, 7k and 7.5k but i've never reved it up to the third light (after it was set).
